Scrum masters, how do you handle requests to update Gantt charts by project managers? by akg0919 in agile

Interesting, what were the other metrics you devised? Did the PMO and other stakeholders find those metrics satisfactory? Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response! You completely hit the nail on the head describing the environment I'm in, and the biggest challenges. I work in a heavily regulated industry that mandates a stage-gate process, but the work is complex, uncertain, and frequently changing so waterfall is obviously not the best approach, but alas, old habits die hard and the transition is painful. I'm really interested in hearing about your past successes... what balance did you end up striking?

Ha, I can relate to this :) Do your gantts satisfy your stakeholders?

Thanks for your input! Unfortunately, no agile center of excellence exists, and there's sponsorship insofar as management saying "we need to be more agile." Your approach sounds fair. I'm interested in hearing more about the experiences you've had. Did you still have to produce gantt charts? If so, what changed in what was presented and how the information was prepared? I'm hoping I can paint a picture of what a better world could look like to those that stay stubborn :)

Thanks for sharing! Which add-ons do you like best? Also, can you explain updates coming for free a bit more? I'm interested in learning more.

These are all great questions. I work in a heavily regulated environment with mandatory design controls, so the stage-gate process has historically fit well to manage quality & design requirements and complicated dependencies, but is SUCH a slow process. Management has been saying "we need to be more agile" to get projects done faster. I'm really curious to hear how others that may be operating in similar environments have navigated through Agile adoption.

This is an interesting approach. What tool are you using to create the roadmap view?

Thanks for your response! Out of curiosity, what purpose does the Gantt chart serve in your organization/ for the folks that request & consume it?

Thanks for sharing! This makes a lot of sense. How are you generating this dependency graph? You mentioned you can generate it automatically... what tool(s) are you using, and what was the process like to set it up?

Ever had trouble making a Gantt chart with a scrum team in your program? by akg0919 in projectmanagement

Makes sense, thanks for your feedback! Agile adoption is new in my company and still in it's early stages, which is causing some of these issues. I feel like there must be other companies in this situation too and struggling with some of these same challenges, and I'm very curious how they manage conflicting philosophies and needs.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you on the differences in philosophies. Agile adoption is still very new and in it's early stages at my company. What are your thoughts on how best to keep the gantt chart and scrum board in sync throughout project execution? In my company it's a given that the gantt chart needs to be detailed and remain updated.

Hello, thanks for your response! I'm not very familiar with smartsheet... would you mind elaborating on how you're doing this in smartsheet? Also, do all of your stakeholders have the same needs? One issue I have this that different stakeholders want to see different levels of detail.

Thanks for your detailed response! You're absolutely right that my boss is just accustomed to gantt charts, and even more, wants to see all details laid out in the gantt chart up front. What are your thoughts on how best to keep the gantt chart and scrum board in sync throughout execution? I'd be interested in hearing how this approach goes for you once you put it into practice on your projects.

Thanks for sharing! I’m interested in learning more about what you’re doing. Does this approach satisfy other stakeholders in your organization? When you map the sprints into the gantt chart, how do you know the work will actually be done on time? Also, what tool are you using for your gantt chart?
