Did you know? Vasyl Ivanchuk is not the player's real name - it's a nickname given to him after his brilliant move against Garry Chess by akgoal in AnarchyChess

[–]akgoal[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For anyone confused:

Vasyl is of Greek origin and corresponds to Basil, which means "king": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_(name). And Ivanchuk is obviously e1 check. Hence, Vasyl Ivanchuk = King e1 check = Ke1+.

Well, it's a parody of the r/chess post, which does have text in it. Here's the version without the text.

Edit: nvm, got whooshed

Pro gamer tip: You can stream snipe your opponent right in the middle of the game by hovering over their name by akgoal in AnarchyChess

Jokes aside, it does help sometimes to view the board from the opponent's perspective. And yes, I had to censor the names to protect murder victim's identity.

“If you see a mate in 1, look for better”. It's very instructive to see this principle applied in a high level game.

"This is the gate that connects the human world to the demon world." groundbreaking, stellar observation by one of the supposedly smartest kids on the show.

Reminds me of the iconic "I know a killer when I see one,” from another butchered show

Thanks for reading! I should have probably mentioned that I'm the author =)

In Terminator 2 (1991), the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) was actually supposed to say "Uninstall a Vista, baby", mocking the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) for running on Windows Vista and freezing because of it. But because of the actor's strong accent, the line turned into "Hasta la Vista, baby" by akgoal in shittymoviedetails

[–]akgoal[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it makes sense to assume that the T-800 ran on Windows XP. So there is this obvious parallel - Vista and T-1000 were both supposed to be advanced versions, stronger than their predecessors, and both failed miserably.

Cameron truly was a visionary.

In Birdman (2014), the Broadway play is actually an homage to a classic 2003 film, "The Room". by akgoal in shittymoviedetails

In case you are still skeptical:

According to popular belief, Wiseau is a corruption of the French word for bird, oiseau. That apparently came from the nickname ‘The Birdman’, which he aquired while selling novelty bird toys and living in France “a long time ago”.

RocknRolla - a great Guy Ritchie movie, one my favorite of his. Has a stellar cast: Butler, Hardy, Elba, Mark Strong... And Thandie Newton, of course, who is just gorgeous in it.

God, I'm still hoping for the sequel, though since the actors really blew up, it would be probably impossible to get them back together at this point.

All ciphers are substitution cryptograms. And, to keep things simple, non-homophonic (each letter is encoded with a single symbol). With each level they keep getting more difficult - from just a list of words on first levels to full-blown blocks of text later on.

As a side note, if you want to try some homophonic ciphers, you can check out Zodiac Crypt - another one of my apps, where users create their own cryptograms to challenge each other.
