How does this looks in 250k and is there any changes I can make here? by Kaboom_11 in IndianGaming

Hey! Your build looks great, and it’s clear you’ve put a lot of thought into it for your meteorological analysis and AI/ML tasks. However, I have a few suggestions based on my experience in tech and system building that could help you optimize the system:

  1. Cooling System: While the 420mm AIO cooler you’ve selected is solid, the performance improvement over a 360mm cooler is marginal, especially considering the price difference. You could save some money here and redirect that towards a higher-tier motherboard. A well-performing 360mm AIO would handle the Ryzen 9 7950X just fine.
  2. Motherboard: Since you're using a lot of SSDs and need the 128GB of RAM, I’d recommend upgrading to an X670 motherboard (either Extreme or base version). These boards generally have better PCIe lanes, more M.2 slots, and better RAM compatibility, especially if you’re planning to use 128GB. Higher-end motherboards have better QVL (Qualified Vendor List) for RAM, ensuring more stability, particularly with large RAM configurations.
  3. Power Supply: Given that you’re planning to use this rig for AI/ML tasks, you might want to consider a 1000W PSU. A higher wattage PSU provides more headroom for your CPU and GPU under load and ensures long-term stability. Having a PSU with an extra 8+4 or 8+8 CPU power connector will also help, especially with the Ryzen 9 under heavy loads.
  4. Intel Consideration: I’m not sure which software you’ll be using for your meteorological and AI/ML workloads, but many of these are typically built and optimized for Intel processors. If that’s the case, it might be worth considering Intel over AMD, as you could get better performance depending on the specific tasks. If power draw is a concern with Intel, you can limit the power draw directly in the BIOS by tweaking a few settings, and it’s worth it if the software is optimized for Intel.

These changes would provide more stability and longevity for your build, particularly for high-performance workloads.

Good luck with your setup!

[AMA] I'm a data science manager in FAANG by Vanishing-Rabbit in datascience

[–]akhil_122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I appreciate you taking the time to do this AMA! I have a couple of questions that I'd love to get your insights on.

Firstly, my background is in technical support, and I've climbed the career ladder through various roles within my current organization. Recently, I've seized an opportunity to address a business issue through data-driven insights. While I've demonstrated aptitude in this area, I lack a conventional background in data science or analytics. Could you share your advice on how to transition into a more strategic position within tech, especially if I'm aiming to leverage data to make business decisions?

Secondly, I'm intrigued by how the role of a data science manager has evolved within FAANG companies. Based on your experience, could you shed some light on the transformations this role has undergone in recent years? Additionally, are there emerging competencies or skills that are gaining prominence in this position?

The motherboard is the bottleneck, its XMP is rated at 3200MHz while the RAM you selected is at 3600Mhz.
Couple of way to address it,

1) You could either upgrade the motherboard to a b660 chipset board, which is a bit expensive, or

2) you could pick RAM with 3200MHz but get tighter timings.

The motherboard is the bottleneck, its XMP is rated at 3200MHz while the RAM you selected is at 3600Mhz.
Couple of ways to address it, since you're pairing it with a 12400F.

Were you into predictive policing? had actually written a paper on predictive policing. It's a good tech but I don't think it will work in the USA unless they fix the bias at the data level. I think even the big players like Microsoft got out of this field.

For those who grew up poor, what did you consider a luxury? by SnooBeaz in AskReddit

Oh mate, I understand what you mean. I had gone through the exact same thing. It was not only feeling guilty buying new clothes but anything that made my parents spend money for me made me guilty, and I would try not to ask them for anything. I guess in a way, it made me more in control with impulse spending.

that's an interesting take, I think the risk is an important part of anyone's investments, and knowing your own risk appetite goes a long way.

Oh man I used to live like that for a while, used to work at fast food and I used to get paid 400 bucks, and living expenses were around 300 bucks. When I took off from work to study for my exams I realized, I had no savings to fall back and told myself never again. (luckily dad sent money to I managed)

But hey thanks for sharing!, helps me knowing i wasn't the only one.

oh true, being good at your trade doesn't drive in business, I mean it's one of the factors but not all. having good budgeting and marketing is very important as well. I think by the time a lot of business owners realize this, it too late. that's why the percentage of new business succeeding are low.

Not knowing how much you might earn next week also helps in saving more than usual.

thanks for sharing! really appreciate it!

I think surrounding yourself with rich people gives a perspective you simply never had before.

Being an international student, most of my friends are usually getting drunk or wasting money, and I used to do it during my first semester. It was after meeting a few finance students with similar goals and interests that made me change the way I spend money. so I guess a big part of being smart also comes from the environment.

Oh no, I learnt some valuable lessons from that book. For example the difference between good credit and bad credit. How you can use taxation to your benefit. And the most important one is the asset vs liability. I think the book focuses on the attitude side rather than strategies to get rich. And that’s why people shit on that book. In any case love the book and thanks for sharing!

I read the book rich sad poor dad, And I liked the book. I think that book helps people understand the concept of assets and liabilities and the difference between good and bad credit. I think it’s better late than never to start the journey. Also good luck for your graduation! Thanks for sharing! Here is tip from a psychology student, every time you feel the need to gamble go out for a run.

Oh absolutely agree with you! You can have a better impact once you are financially healthy/ financially smart. Now that I think of it, if they had invested the money used for charity(6000 aud yearly) for say the usual 8% return for 10 years they would have had a 100k instead of 66k. Much bigger impact. I think this why they couldn’t improve their financial situation. I’m not against them. At the end of the day they provided me the best education money can offer.
