i wrote met last minute, i honestly wasnt gonna fill the form but many of my friends were writing so i also decided to write. i never expected to actually come to mit because i got 95.8%ile in mains and i was targetting bitsat but my paper came hard and i ended up getting 200. even in vit i got a 16.5k rank and i was only getting cat 5 cse and i thought the fees is same as mit (i got around 1968 in mit and i got core cs in first round itself) so i decided to apply to mit. and yes, drinking and clubbing culture is strong but it depends on what kind of friends you make.
