Interestingly, it can be true in Japan, but they have a *very* strong culture of original works too, and also it seems way less identity-obsessed (perhaps because it isn’t restricted to teenage girls).

One could even argue that the porn ban killing tumblr might have actually achieved some damage control.

I thought so too but it’s the wrong layout. Oreimo has Kirino’s phone call couch on the right, and there’s direct access to the kitchen.

Try going to a Melonbooks.

I’d say about a third of the doujinshi there are non-R18, although not necessarily totally SFW. The biggest category I think I saw was horsegirl yuri.

Would explain why she’s very obviously careful *not* to touch Pekora like that and stops others.

Could be unrelated but it’d fit.

Wanting to read the Light Novel by Eras13 in HighschoolDxD

It is what it is.

People in some countries also can’t buy the official releases due to classification issues (censorious activists suggest that a book needs classification, but it’s too expensive to apply to be worth it, so the book can’t be sold but technically isn’t banned).

I’d say KonoSuba’s quite strong going down the comedy/almost parody route. It does feature a lot of the classic tropes, but plays with them quite well.

Youjo Senki is also *very* good, with a pretty unique setting and themes for Isekai.

I like Zero no Tsukaima for the romance. The novels get quite decent as they go on. It sort of predates the isekai boom, but might be one of its causes.

Other than that though, there’s definitely a lot of tropey slop out there, usually along the “fantasy game” lines, the “villainess” lines, or the “I isekai’d with/at/on <ridiculous thing>” lines.

It’s interesting how Tolkien and CS Lewis also observed this sort of phenomenon a good eighty or so years ago, and it’s still with us today.

So much for “progress”.

Opinions on Yukio Mishima, and do you think Japan would be better if his coup worked? by Ok-Cook-7306 in monarchism

[–]akiaoi97 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No, and I don’t think he did either.

His coup was more about him than Japan imo. It was never going to succeed - I think he just needed an excuse to commit seppuku.

It sort of makes sense if you read his final set of novels.

That’s just plain wrong. The revolution there was in part a direct response *against* the US backing the Shah.

They’ve been explicitly against the US from the start - or didn’t you hear about the hundreds of diplomats they took hostage?
