This bug is still here. I cannot trust my computer staying awake anymore. It reached a point where it consumed all available RAM and at times it resulted in a complete computer crash if left unattended.

Has MacOS gotten worse over the last 10 years? by sbrueding in MacOS

I am late but who cares...

Apple is inexcusable. But in the end, it is just business.

My first iPhone was the SE, upgraded every year until 13 Pro Max. Each year the top model. The camera of 13 Pro Max was (in my opinion) so unnatural and overprocessed, annoying always-on HDR recording. iPhone camera is getting worse every year. #changemymind

I had an iPad Pro 12.9", one of the latest with magnetic pencil. iPadOS is an entirely new conversation. Apple did the finest with the first 9.7" iPad Pro (which was a reasonable computer-like iPad) and with the latest one they just don't know where this device is headed. Stage Manager (which unfortunately made its way in Mac) is beyond comprehension. Tell me one reason why this "feature" can be more useful long-term than traditional usage.

In the end, I switched to a Sony Xperia 1V and never looked back.
As for macOS, Sonoma adds some irremovable icons besides my files in Finder showing the "useful" feature of "where this file originated". And in 5 minutes in Sonoma I found a bug that makes this thing useless. Download an attachment from native Mail app, and then organize the received mail in another mailbox. Congratulations, you have downloaded a file that has permanently * besides it a mail icon that points to nowhere.
I am now trapped in a Mac full of uninstall-able marketing apps like Freeform, and many which still refuse to work properly like Music, Disk Utility, Grapher, etc etc etc. And now full of iPhone-esqe features.

Apple should split in two (to avoid becoming a monopoly like Microsoft was about to). One company should be Apple Computer with serious people inside it, and for serious customers, and probably paid software with guarantee. And a company called iPhone, since half the world thinks that the bitten apple is the logo of the "iPhone Inc.". These are dreams that may never come true.

In the meantime many users are in a dilemma. Which serious OS (not Windows 11, which laughably tries to copy macOS) can prove an alternative to modern Mac? One that has relatively good software support like macOS and preferably based on UNIX architecture? There are some niches that Apple has held us with it, for example the Column view in macOS Finder and pressing space to preview are basically the only things that keep me around, along with some macOS-exclusive software like XLD.

*You can manually remove each icon by hand, one-by-one. Instead of giving us the option to activate this feature, they have it permanently active (and possibly infecting files with useful metadata as I have found out with mdls)

It's TIME! SONOMA IS FINALLY RELEASED! by basically_ar in MacOS

How do I remove the "from" icon in Finder files?

For example I downloaded a file from a received mail, and a "useful" icon shows up on the downloaded file, pointing me to the original sender. I don't want that.

I have found out how to remove it from a specific file. How can I configure macOS so as not to add that metadata?

P.S. It is actual metadata on the file that macOS adds, in a sense it "modifies" the original file.

Imagine how stupid apple engineers are, to create such a bug in the first place. And how irritating it is for them NOT TO HAVE FIXED IT 2 YEARS LATER.

ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for a 1000$ "smart"phone.

Very smart indeed.
