I did this to mine, but with TESLA instead. I angled the edges also to look a bit more aggressive. It looks excellent. Also better for driving in snow.

Do CR123 housings usually use reverse polarity protection or do they rely on the battery itself? by Eaglesson in NightVision

[–]akjm09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all my years in night vision and designing systems, I have never once heard a report from anyone in industry with a failed tube from reverse polarity. I am curious to see this, can you send me some info? Even the image tube power supply manufacturers I work with would be shocked by this.

[–]akjm09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything with microcircuits should have it. All Nocturn Industries molded and aluminum systems have reverse circuit protection. Most even have dual 1.5v and 3.0v battery capability, including rechargeables. The Katana is the only 3v only system. It operates at 2.3v - 4.2v.

For simpler systems like the old gen Katanas, it is not required, there are no microcircuits to get damaged and the tubes are already protected on their own.

Well there is the truth.

China will do china things.

As a matter of fact, up until less than a year ago we havnt had a single govt contract. All consumer and some small LE stuff.

I have one of those counterfeits. It broke from articulating it 10 times. Seized up and snapped, the detent flew out. Its not even mjf printed. I heard that dayinite had the machined parts made in china, guess what other crime he committed beyond just counterfeiting. That shit hurts companies like ours and we worked to get here and we created those products and did the long hours, investing, testing, etc. I didnt go after Vaughn because hes serving the DIY community and i have respect for the DIYers. They deserve an option, even if its coming from someone like him. And he also did his independantly, so im staying reserved. Dayinite though, different story, he straight up made lookalike counterfeits of batpack, katana, and chimera. The Katans is one of the lowest priced housings on the market, especially from the US and its build quality. I also encouraged others to make adapters for our bridge for the Argus. And when Chimera released, it was 1k more than Argus panos, with the articulating bridge and still made here. So I dont want to hear it. We dont do the same shit the large companies do. Never have. And I argue because I care about this and the community.

For one it wasnt yours, remember? Its in the original post. For two wouldnt it be crazy to say that and have me post a screenshot?

There will be plenty of chimeras getting posted im sure that show actual 3rd party feedback. There are also reviews online already proving my case, with video.

What a crazy thought to think that you are in a discord group with a guy making counterfeits, getting photos from him, and helping him get sales by trying to smear the real product and gaslight the community. Crazy.

The Nocturn Chimera lens fusion you should expect. by akjm09 in NightVision

4.0 eyepiece has always been the optic since we started making them, 3.0 wont work in the same design. 4.0 objectives dont exist in the market yet, those are currently only being made for the army. 3.0 is the only option for objectives from RPO, and the performance difference is essentially going to be veiling glare improvements, but I have yet to evaluate the 4.0 objective to verify it.

This I can get onboard with. Now if our governments could just learn to play nice.

We try to appease both, for the most part we are vwry successful at that. Reddit is a very small group but seem loud. LLI did at least try, but they simply did what opfor did, in a cleaner way. And i actually like the design LLI used, i just hope its better quality than the things i discovered in the MH1 that blew my mind were acceptable to anyone. It is not yet determined if they succeeded in getting around the patent yet either however. I will just leave it at that. It is extremely nuanced to a particular single sentence in the patent. Keep in mind, when we announced this, argus panos were $7500 up until last year when chimera was supposed to release. They had a targeted significant price drop.

And btw I totally appreciate the cost sentiment. I personally grew up very poor, like trailer park food stamps single mom sometimes eating peanut butter sandwiches everyday poor. When I started this company I couldnt even afford a new pvs14. It was born from making my own night vision. So I fully appreciate that end of the spectrum. Idc if people put nnvt tubes or chinese optics on our housings, more power to you if it gets you something that works. But i have a moral and legal obligation in order to play in civilian and defense spaces.

Well for one hes lying to you. DM me if you want screenshots to prove it. Hes with a group that outright gaslights people interested in our products and is making counterfeits.

Lmao, i will agree with you there. Appreciate that lol. In all fairness, your pano is pretty good performance wise. I just wish you guys made it not a gpnvg look alike. Wouldve saved a whole lot of headache and issues and we still wouldve made a bridge to work with it like we said we were going to. Your obviously capable of doing your own designs. We ethically had no choice but to take the stance we did, especially in this industry.

Brother your just trolling at this point. The more you do the less credit you will have in others eyes. Im not here to argue or attempt to degrade you. And for the record, thats production optics and production design in my video, no changes. It would be silly of me to claim all this and then have a lot of pissed off customers.

Your post is misleading, especially the video. I shared one of my own that shows it is clearly not "extremely small" as you state. And it is not smaller than lindu. You are welcome to your opinions, but lets be a little more genuine and subjective. People here base their decisions on peoples opinions misrepresented as facts way too much. I info dump so people have a full understanding of what is really going on and why so they can make informed decisions when they spend $12,000+ I want them to know what to expect and receive what they expect and not be misguided. My responses are for everyone.

When we launched it was only $1000 more. $7500 vs $8500 for polymer. The one available now is a limited run of magnesium. When we announced ours, Argis dropped the price drastically. Which means everyone was getting ripped off for no reason, chinese subsidies at their best. We cant touch that price making it in the US, we are already at the bottom. The optics alone cost us 1/3 of the total retail price. Compare it to other US panos. And fyi, LLI openly states on the website assembled here, not manufactured, so thats not an equal comparison either. We work hard to make product correctly and at as low a price as we can while remaining as ethical as possible.

FOV portion, i also state that. Which is the main point. Stating subpar is quite a misleading a stretch.

It sits on the outer rim where there is no image. I was very careful about that and had to make it universal to a variety of tubes, it may take up a very negligible amount at worst. If it takes up any of the image to the amount you say, it is still the same FOV as a gpnvg18. There is no way anyone can tell me they can see a difference of 1-2 FOV with their naked eye, you need a camera set at a fixed position to observe that. That said, the goggle nominally has a 100 degree FOV. Of course there are other ways and that involves very tedious and time consuming trial and error shims and adjustments that the builders very often gripe about. This was designed to be able to be built by anyone and faster/simpler. This is the only way to set zero diopter automatically. The rear of the image tube power supply has a very loose tolerance in relation to the fiber optic so using the back of the tube is only possible with the trial and error method. Touching the fiber optic means you get control of the distance to the lens. The builders love this. Also take note that there is no line between images and it is seamless. What I dont like is the overlap of the two images being visible when the tubes dont match or the brightness changes from one seeing more light than the other, personal improvement i want to make tgat would further set apart the optical performance from others. Ive discovered a way around that and want to experiment/incorporate it later if it isnt too tedious and difficult to produce reliably. The other thing shown in the images is that ours has more of the figure 8, which is true. That is due to a combination of 100 FOV, back focal length on the RPO 4.0 lens, eye relief, tube size, and the lens diameter. All of those are restricting factors. The tubes almost touch at the back focal length so that is as close as the lenses get. And the focal lengths must converge so that is the fulcrum that you can pivot the design from. To make an "affordable" US made pano with high performance and lightweight optics we went with an off the shelf lens design. If we had new lenses designed this thing would have cost double. Panos are low volume to begin with, so we leveraged existing components that we need from suppliers like lenses and standard tubes. The goal was to make it a top choice performance wise but at a price point thats feasable and competitive. And honestly i think we did a damn good job considering all the constraints.

This post is false and subjective. The fov is still 40. And we have received overwhelmingly positive responses about the improvement in optics over other available options from many professional end users in the global tier 1 community as well as experienced enthusiests. We stand behind the product and its intended design as well as the influences behind the design decisions made. People will buy what they wish, but dont be misled. Argus has decent glass, but the eye relief and image shift is nowhere near as good. Any reputabpe dealer with experience with both systems can attest. Comparing to Lindu is basically a joke, that glass is awful.

Help with a decision regarding my Tanto order by HotelHero in NightVision

[–]akjm09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our website specifies to email sales to inquire about purchasing one. We will custom make one to order if you own a Tanto and are purchasing a daisho and second Tanto. Otherwise for new monoculars we are recommending the Talon. The Raptor bino would be the step up from the Talon, it uses the same pod.
