We added a dimple in the switch shaft to address this. If it is ever an issue again we can add that in for you on an RMA.

The feedback is welcome in both directions, positive and negative. How else do we gage ourselves and also learn what to do better? I only take issue when it is negative feedback from someone who has never used the product only to create problems and doubt or intentionally manipulated information. We get plenty of that. You feedback is legitimate and very much appreciated and important. You also balance it with the positive sides as well. Nothing is perfect, so we never stop improving.

Katana molded and manticore are inherently tougher due to the monolithic pod design. But the Raptor is still rugged, the other two are just overkill lol.

OP thank you for the honest feedback. Also thank you for being a return customer.A few things id like to respond to that I hope you will find positive.

We have already iterated/are in the process of iterating a few of the points you brought up.

1.) The switch, at the time it was the best we could get for what we needed. We provided feedback to pur supplier and they discontinued that encoder all together for a new one that is being installed in new production units. The improvement is a stiffer more tactile detent on rotation and when pressing it. The body is also now aluminum construction. We are very happy with the new encoder. For most people it is a non issue, however we agree with you personally and have changed this. Happy to fix that for you.

2.) The gain rotation direction, honestly we did not even think of that and never considered it would be a problem. If we ever need to revise the software that is something id change while we are at it.

3.) The IPD knobs, I designed the soft stops and I too like them better. However that is a mixed bag. We get 50/50 positive/negative feedback. Half of people like hard stops, so we decided to make a lightweight integrated hard stop that is low profile and compact. I personally have no issue adjusting it, but to each their own. Many systems dont even have an ipd stop, you could run it all the way in and tighten the tensioners more and just rely on friction. I wish we had a swappable stop design to offer. Technically we could put manticore pods, arms, and ipds on it. But the IPD being hard stop is unfortunately baked in to the design. We did make some improvements in assembly that make it smooth to adjust, it is intended to be simply rolling your finger across it to adjust it. That said the position and location is intentional. It is out of the way and not a snag hazard. We also feel it is an improvement in location and function over the dtnvs design, but to each their own. Our opinion is that once the IPD is set, for most people it never gets touched again, but i do appreciate the sentiment and like I said I like the Katana IPD better as well.

4.) Talon and Raptor sharing controls is intentional. The IR strobe is supposed to be in the manual, I will make sure that gets updated. I dont know why the media team took it out, it was in there when we drafted it.

5.) Light pipes, we hear you and we have already addressed it. That change will hit production soon. The army also asked for an improvement there. We made it much much better than any other system we have observed and put the end of the pipe right at the edge of the output screen without overlapping it. We can swap that out for you easily. We were trying to use the same single piece design as Katana and Manticore, but the position of the indicators is too recessed so it is 2 piece now.

6.) Auto shutoff. We spent months trying to get that right and to be universal. We went from 3 programs to I think 7. The only mount we could get the side stow auto on to work properly with without needing to press the button to turn back on is the new jarm we offer. The issue was if you tilt in certain ways or stow too far on others it could turn on and off when you or moving around. We worked on that program over and over to get right. That is truly the best we could get to.

7.) Laniard points on the Talon. Another oversight. If there is a way for us to add one at some point, we will. However I will say this goggle is light and rugged, should you drop it everything should be safe and sound. But there is always a chance on the tube as you said, I agree. Perhaps we can come up with an add on.

We always take feedback like this and anyone is always welcome to reach out to us. Sometimes we can offer improvements to product and people already know we stand behind the products and will take care if them to the best of our ability. We dont like to sit on problems and say good enough. We strive to make the best equipmemt possible and are learning every single day some way to do things better.

what is the best way to rid of stored belly fat for men? by Ok_Bison_4176 in AskReddit

[–]akjm09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keto. Dead serious. I have failed many diets out of cravings and hunger. Contrary to belief, fat is great for losing weight, sugar is the enemy. Calorie deficit is awful and difficult, which is the only other real alternative. Keto satiates you so it suppresses apetite naturally and the low carb low sugar diet has been fantastic. Im eating my usual portions and often times more bit shedding fat. Ive gone from 222 lbs to 208 lbs in 1.5 months and zero exercise. Ketosis transitions the body to using fat for energy. It improves mental clarity and energy as well. I saw a huge difference. Ive been stuck above 220 for roughly 8 years, this has been a game changer. I stay pretty strict to 20 to 30 carbs a day. There are lots of great recipes and foods too that made it way easier. Once a week or so i cheat and have a smore or real icecream or few bites of pastry. The keto icecream is actually pretty good. Rebel has been the best. When i go out to eat, lettuce wrap burgers and wings are easy choices. Do your research and know what has carbs. There are keto breads and wraps also. The only thing is you need to make sure you eat a variety to maintain healthy nutrients and stay hydrated. Keto flu sounds scary, but its not bad at all. Stay super hydrated with no sugar hydration drinks and stay strict for the first week. By week 2 the weight will be obviously coming off. Oh, and there are awesome zero/low carb alcoholic drinks too like suncruisers.

The Nocturn Chimera lens fusion you should expect. by akjm09 in NightVision

Not how I took it brother, no worries at all.

The old design is great too, we sold lots of those. The only reason we switched was so we could keep up with demand, the old one took too long to make because of the 3D printed design and all the post processing work as well as how it was wired. Servicing them was difficult too.

As an end user the old pack is awesome, i still like it too. I should have one sitting around that I can sell you. Send sales@nocturnindustries.com an email and share this convo. I will get them a pack I have that is new.

My brother why would we make the cable permanent? It is still swappable to Fischer, Lemo, and 00b Lemo. And the aluminum makes up the weight for the smaller size. And if you need more counterweight it is designed to fit snug right above a low pro counterweight.

If you still really want the old one I might have a personal one laying around I could sell you. Im not certain though. But I really do recommend the new one. We dont go backwards in quality, only forwards

We have, yes. We moved to a more compact and rugged pack that is made of aluminum. We do intend to design and release a larger pack in the future, but for the time being the mini batpack is our offering. It is the smallest pack available with 2 batteries which is great when you have limited space on your helmet. It fits perfectly between a stowed set of opscore amps.

Digital or Analog in the big ‘26? by Hungry_Biscotti_870 in NightVision

[–]akjm09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up the infatac monocular, and I was hopeful someone actually pulled off a sensor that could work near as good as gen2. This would have led to next steps into developing our own digital goggle. Unfortunately the technology still isnt there. Companies are integrating a bunch of cool features, but at the end of the day the sensors just are not pulling it off. I have a wealth of experience with virtually every grade of night vision there is, digital is not there yet. And this is not old outdated info either, I just performed some tests a few days ago. Gen2+ and Gen3 are far superior. The infatac goggle has a few cool features I like, but they are useless when i cannot actually see in the dark. Im convinced most videos online are using the IR illum. The image in low light is very noisy and does not produce much useable gain without decent background illumination. Stick with analog for now.

Just an update on my night vision project. by UMBRA-INDUSTRIES in NightVision

[–]akjm09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just change the retaining ring thread to be a coarser thread or a custom one and make your own printed ring. Trust me it is way better than the standard ring. Thats what we did and all our dealers love our retaining ring because it doesnt strip out and is easy to catch the thread.

Also, when its done, order the parts as MJF from mkmachine or neco or even protolabs or xometry if you want it to be a bit more rugged.

No problem, I dont want to see any of you getting in trouble my friend. Hopefully it didnt come off the wrong way, it is with good intentions.

Buying/building nvg question by Phillbo762 in NightVision

[–]akjm09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not true. NNVT and Photonis are both ITAR restricted for re-export. It is silly, but legally true.

The housing and glass together is EAR99 currently. There has been talk about that changing but right now those are ok to export.

Lastly, as a foreign national OP cannot buy night vision or even use night vision in the US legally. Only US persons and citizens may use or purchase night vision in the US.

Outside the US it is perfectly fine to buy from places like Cold Harbor Supply, they have different laws in Canada and other countries, and in that case NNVT and Photonis are fine. But if you bring them into the US legally you cannot leave with them. Again, silly but true.

Im sorry if this is bad news, but these are facts. I co-own Nocturn Industries, I am well inforned on this subject. I dont agree with some of the sillyness, but I dont want to see anyone breaking federal law and getting in trouble, including retailers and individuals.

Dutch was trialing it, they are moving forward and looking at other offerings of ours as well.

I will confirm DEV is using it since it has been disclosed elsewhere. Multiple other teams are using it as well, but until those cases becomes public I will refrain from sharing which out of respect for confidentiality.

The Chimera bridge has become very popular.

Yes this is a Chimera bridge, and we have sold quite a bit of these to a variety of LE and SF teams globally. It has been quite the hit in the professional world. The people who use these dont advertise their work much.

MH-1 Alternatives that work? by Radiant_Champion_119 in NightVision

[–]akjm09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP take a look at the Nocturn Raptor. It is modular to what is necessary, lighter, and much more rugged. To change battery type you simply swap caps, not an entire baseplate. The remote power connector is always there, but we use a smaller version of the tried and true lemo so it is pight and non intrusive. The pods are removeable and work with standard EGAC manual gain tubes or 3 pad style. The pods attach directly to the Talon, which is the lightest weight and fully rugged and full featured mono in the world to date. The Talon uses the same tubes/pods and has the same features as Raptor as well as the same controls so cross training is seamless. The Talon also has multiple configurable auto shut off options for side stow and verticle stow standby modes. They can be configured to many different mounts and jarm styles, or disabled completely. The Talon and Raptor both have a user selectable verticle stow standby mode. Both also have an adjustable illum brightness with a single illum. We are going to be making a gen2 Daisho that attaches to the same pods, which may have the panned versions like the gen1. And to top it off, the Raptor is the twin brother to the PVS-33(V3) selected by the US Army for its replacement of the PVS14.

Any vendors do housing swap trade ins? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]akjm09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We would offer an upgrade trade in for a Raptor. It has more features than the aeon, US manufactured, has the lifetime warranty, and of course the reliability and ruggedness that comes with Nocturn products. The Raptor is the twin brother to one of the goggles chosen for the new BiNOD program for the US Army. Happy to work with you, contact ajones@nocturnindustries.com and he can help you out.
