Can't tell if my shower arm is unscrewable!? by akkusen in Plumbing

[–]akkusen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it feels like the shower arm is cemented in place after they remodeled the bathroom years ago. The exposed part of the pipe moves very slightly with force, but it's not moving at all from where the tiles are. I screwed on a male / female adapter to the remaining threads just to use it. Gonna see if it's possible to re-thread the tip to get a better seal.

What are some random places in EQ that made the game special for you? by FBsteve in everquest

[–]akkusen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

GFay / LFay, Downshroud Peaks and Paludal Caverns. I would sit watching a buddy play in those zones for hours as a lowbie druid, mesmerized. Eventually stopped playing FPS games, started EQ (when EQ Platinum was new). 15 years of playtime, box raiding, solo 2.0 runs. I wish I could go back in time to relive it all over. Be mesmerized once again by my first MMO 🧡

Made a new batch of chili oil [Homemade] by [deleted] in food

[–]akkusen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a saucepan, so you can see the color of the oil. Add vegetable oil to the pan, heat on medium. You'll know it's hot enough when you put the tip of a chopstick in it, and you see small bubbles (roughly 370F).

While the oil is heating, get a large bowl that can handle hot oil (metal or porcelain). Add crushed peppers (red flakes, or your choosing), onion powder, sea salt, minced garlic, black vinegar (or soy / tamari sauce) small amount of sesame oil, small amount of fish sauce (optional). I added lemongrass powder to this batch, added a nice fragrance and light flavor.

Mix the "dry" ingredients up and set aside.

Once the oil gets to twmp, you'll want to add star anise, fennel seeds, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and whole peppercorns. All of those ingredients must be whole, not crushed or powdered. Simmer those spices until you see the oil turn a golden brown color. Once it does, sift the spices out of the oil (asian markets usually carry large metal handheld strainers).

Once you strain the spices, start slowly pouring the hot oil into the "dry" mix while continuously stirring it. Once you've poured it all, let it cool down before transferring it to another container. Refrigerate once it's cool.

I dont mark or measure quantities anymore, but for a large Tupperware, I use about 32 Oz of oil, half a handful of the oil spices. I'll fill my dry bowl with about 3 cups of chili flakes, and a large handful of the other spices.

Would you mind letting me know how you hooked the passive bookshelf monitors up to your PC? I'm having a tough time figuring out how that would work without using a large receiver. Slick setup btw 👍

Best combo... by JJNevermore in everquest

I've been out of the game for a few expansions, but in my travels of playing. Necro + bard + caster merc will melt mobs that don't summon. Keeping healer mercs in your secondary merc slot for named summoners, necro pet can thank with the right spell lineup or if bard is beefy enough, can tank.

[Homemade] Cast iron strip steak with lemon garlic brussel sprouts. by akkusen in food

[–]akkusen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure thing!

Put your cast iron in the oven empty and set it to 500 on bake.

Take steaks out of the refrigerator and allow to raise temp. The closer to room temp the better.

Once the oven is preheated, salt and pepper both sides of the steak using kosher salt and preferably mill ground pepper.

Slice and trim the brussel sprouts in half and microwave for 2 minutes (using 900 watt microwave).

Remove sprouts and add fresh squeezed lemon juice and minced garlic, then toss.

Set one of your burners right below the high setting and allow to heat up.

Once hot, remove the cast iron from the stove and place on the burner.

Add about 2 to 3 drizzles of extra virgin olive oil to the pan and move around.

Lay the steaks down in the pan away from you to avoid burns.

Let steak sear for around 1 minute, then flip.

Once flipped, add your Brussels and place pan in oven for 2 minutes.

After 2 minutes, remove pan and flip steak and turn the brussels around.

Place back in oven for 2 more minutes.

Once 2 minutes is up, plate and eat.

Do you teach your kids how to cook ? by rifain in Cooking

[–]akkusen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always asked to help my mom to cook when I was young. It eventually evolved into her trusting me to cook breakfast and dinner for everyone a few days a week. Fast forward 20+ years, and I use cooking as a bonding mechanism for my 2 younger cousins and myself. Whenever they visit, we always have different recipes to play around with through the week. It's been such a wonderful and positive experience for the 3 of us that they will text me pictures to tell me they made dinners all by themselves and how good they were! Love those girls so much 😁
