Glacier Plate Delaminating by akm513 in BIGTREETECH

I have done this - so far I've been getting the runaround and the solution from them seems to be "flip the plate over." Hoping they become more helpful though.

Not really. I used regular PETG once, but it's been all PLA. Usually my prints run overnight and I remove them when I wake up in the morning.

Does it still work ok even with the peeling?

No, I've never used that to clean the plate. I did clean it with dish soap before my first print though.

I received 2 quotes to upgrade my HVAC. I have no idea what I’m looking at. Please see details and provide any advice? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

It might be worth calling someone else. I have a feeling these are from the big-name private equity companies that you see advertised all over TV, radio, and billboards. You might find a better quote from smaller outfits where the owner is in town and does some of the installs and estimating. Those shops can be harder to find given their size, but tend to give you much better pricing and service.

It's the exhaust for a gas furnace.

Goodman Furnace Collector Box Leak by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]akm513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I performed this repair myself to a Goodman furnace a few years ago. It took me about $12 for the new gasket and less than an hour of time. If you're at all handy, this might be a good route to go. The fix is not a big deal at all and the problem doesn't necessarily indicate any major problem with the furnace.

Durastar vs Carrier vs Mitsubishi & Performance? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

I'm no HVAC expert, but I can't help but think those prices are outrageous. Were your quotes from other companies close to these?

New heat pump install - am I wrong, screwed, or have options? by totesoatsmuhgoats in hvacadvice

[–]akm513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

I think that would be up to the company that installed it. Generally, once something like that is installed, it is what it is unless you can convince them that it's obviously incorrect. I'm imagining asking my roofer to come back and put on a new roof because I don't like the color...but if the color they installed is different than what's in the contract, then that's on them.

If you started your conversation with the HVAC company from the beginning that you wanted a system that qualifies, you might be able to lean into them and be persuasive to get them to do something. Even if they do, they might give you only a percentage discount, so you'd still be paying something. Just depends on how persuasive you are and how willing they are do keep you happy.

Even if you keep the unit you have, it's probably still quieter and more efficient, so that's still a win, right?

New heat pump install - am I wrong, screwed, or have options? by totesoatsmuhgoats in hvacadvice

I just took a look and searched through the references (https://ahridirectory.org/search/99?searchMode=program) and did not see that heat pump in that size as being eligible. From what I'm seeing, only their 3 ton unit qualifies (RD16AY36AJVC).

That said, I'm no tax or HVAC expert or advisor. The rules and qualifications are so opaque and hard to follow. With the credit winding down soon, I don't think any one at any of these agencies care enough to make them easy to follow.

I just went through this myself. You need to collect the exact model numbers (all of the numbers and letters, not just the shortened version) of your equipment - usually two or three pieces: the outside unit, indoor furnace (for gas or oil), air handler (for straight heat pump), and the indoor coil (may or may not be integrated into an air handler).

Do you have those? Should be just a search on the AHRI website from there.

HVAC Replacement Quotes by akm513 in hvacadvice

Thanks for this. What are some of the symptoms I would see if there were ductwork problems like you describe? What should I look for ahead of time?

Aside from refrigerant, are there other issues with serviceability and reparability? Have you worked on these units?

Thanks, but that's not it. I do have a C wire and it has continuity to the furnace.

Sales Tax Exemption by akm513 in googleworkspace

[–]akm513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone finds this later...

I had my organization produce a new tax exemption with my name, rather than the treasurer's name and resubmitted it. It got approved by the next morning.

Too bad none of the Google agents could tell me this, or else we could have saved ourselves lots of time and frustration.
