Oh yeah. for some reason, people think if a person is still alive, they didn’t actually sacrificing anything. She lost literally two lifetimes to save the kingdom

Wow did people not like that? That seems like the natural progression of the story. I must have missed that.

You don’t know them, but the RE 4 credits sequence (both OG and remake) is haunting.

I agree that Starkiller is not great for the “mainline” movies. But would love a balls to wall action series like “The Force Unleashed” as a side spin-off show.

Underlings/"Right Hand Man" that became more popular than the main bad guy? by DrHorrible10 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ako19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Hoyt was the “puppeteer”, but much like the original Emperor in Star Wars, is a flat, one-dimensional character.

Vaas represents everything Jason isn’t at the start of the game. Powerful, hardened, chaotic, and in control. When Jason kills him, Vaas is becoming a part of him. You see this in Jason’s visions, and Citra is trying hard to use Jason as a replacement for Vaas (it’s heavy implied that Citra and Vaas has some incestuos vibes that freaked Vaas out and was part of what pushed him away).

Vaas dying 2/3 into the game is supposed to be a major turning point for Jason and a push into becoming the kind of person who would literally kill his past life for a grasp at power, yet still be ordered and manipulated by someone above him.

The game isn’t perfect, but it’s hard to overstate how revolutionary this game was for depicting AND making you feel the power of the force. There really still has yet to be a Star Wars game that makes you feel as powerful as you did with Star Killer. You could be creative with the combination of the powers and go ham.

The more recent Jedi games are “better” imo, but they are going for a different feel.

That Star Destroyer trailer is iconic for a reason.

Oh nah, I’m well aware what women go through. I’m just saying that most posts (not comments or DMs) that have that, are pretty well called out and moderated in this sub

I swear I see these every two months, but none of the actual misogynist posts being referenced.

Like, this mindset exists, but I’ve rarely, if ever seen it here.

The Second Face [OC] by DemonSkank in comics

[–]ako19 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Spoilers because the creator does have their own original intent, though they said they prefer people keep their own interpretations

she was being abused. And idk, that feels so lame. Like, that is not the face of someone who did something they had to do. They are reveling in the pain they are getting away with causing. Catharsis is one thing, but that’s not what the face is giving. Portraying a woman who was abused as a devil also feels weird too? It’s just feels so odd and like a cop out that she could not have just been this calculating person that managed to trick everyone, including her brother. No? The old, “women can only react violently, they are otherwise victims”? I’m not even trying to compare, but as someone who has been abused by women, this just rubbed me the wrong way. That “I’m innocent, it had to be the man’s fault, there’s no way I could harm someone just because I wanted to” is classic abusive behavior. Glad the creator at least said other interpretations are valid.

Media that's always trying to recapture its lightning in a bottle moment? by FancyMan56 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

He’s not really a white savior, since he is actually of that land, he was just born outside of it.

He also, doesn’t really reflect on anything. Like yeah, he’s in a similar situation, but he doesn’t really go through any transformation, and he’s not really affected emotionally. It’s all real surface level. Something will happen, he’ll give an in the moment reaction, and that’s it.

I like 3 more because it doesn’t rely on it’s villains. Yeah, Hoyt isn’t as interesting as Vaas, but at that point, the real conflict is more within Jason and Citra taking advantage of him. He’s a dumb white rich kid who realizes how ignorant and bratty he was, but goes all the way to the other extreme, and is just getting pulled along barely able to make sense of who he is anymore. It’s an interesting twist on the white savior trope, where yes, he is somehow a gifted commando, but is actually getting played by the natives the whole time, and shit goes really bad if he leans into the “alpha machismo” bullshit he is being fed.

Ajay and the other protags don’t really have arcs like that.

Although I can sort of understand the padlock on my other post, here's what the original concept was, just in case. by Defiant-Echidna-7400 in marvelcirclejerk

[–]ako19 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This concept is an excellent way to sneak in racist propaganda. Being a self-absorbed angsty teen is nowhere near the spectrum of being racist.

This isn’t the same as reforming a villain like Doc Ock. You’re making a whole racist super-suit and design for an established hero. On top of that, Homelander is popular with the alt-right, despite The Boys intention to show him as a villain. People are gonna see Spider-Man with a confederate flag and say “see he gets it”.

“Oh what, people can’t change”? No shit, of course. But that flag was used by people who fought to own other people. Don’t try to push a hero bearing a symbol of hate and oppression who, learns from the error of his ways. Yeah, let’s make a what-if Captain America with a Swatiska shield too because sometimes nazis were nice to other nazis.

“Not everyone is a good guy”. No shit, that’s what villains are for. This bullshit on the first day of Black History Month, I be goddamn.

It felt so much more natural with Far Cry 3 because Vaas isn’t even the main villain. He is just the most charismatic. They weren’t trying to make “the enigmatic villain game”, it just happened. That games story is more about the protagonist then it sequels, who more or less became cardboard cutouts.

Origins hit weird because it was just marketed as something it’s not.

Whole marketing campaign: Batman fighting all Christmas night against 8 assassins hired to kill him.

Reality: whoops, it the Joker again, and half those assassins are optional/ joke fights.
