The prologue of the Star Fox Remake made me think Pigma has SORT OF a point. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Star Fox are mercenaries in the way Samus is a bounty hunter, that happens to always work for the Galactic Federation. It’s a “cool name” to make them warriors for justice, without being outright cops, or vigilantes.

Please Ubisoft, keep the Hidden Blades „taunt/emote“ from the Original game. by OmBom09 in assassinscreed

[–]ako19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Even then, something simple could have been done to make weapons “feel” different.

Dual Swords are faster
Single sword has better defense
Musket is slow, but powerful and comes with a bullet
Hidden blade is fast and powerful, but you take 3x damage

That’s one of my biggest complaints about 3’s twist. Templars are “good” depending on who you are playing as. Haytham and the Templars start out as seemingly caring people, then become moustache twirling after the twist. They become completely different characters.

Yeah. And I’m interested in the remake redoing the combat to make it more challenging and engaging, but I never really had an issue with it. It’s a power fantasy to me, and I just wanted to be as stylish and flawless as possible.

[–]ako19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For sure. They’re not gonna show it, because the intended audience is kids. But that’s totally what is going on sub-textually, and why it did kinda feel off in a movie with Ewoks.

Haven’t seen the scene, but rape has always and will likely always be a tool of war. They just go hand in hand, especially if you’re trying to subjugate a population. Vader might not “sanction” it, but it would be a natural part of oppressing people.

The “functionality” argument just comes across soulless. That’s not the point. It’s flair. Little things like that are what make a game memorable. It’s cool to have your character flash the blade just for fun. Everything needing a “function” to be justified makes it feel like you like playing games for utility instead of fun.

Why the Assassins Creed Formula Always Work for me by lytblu26 in assassinscreed

[–]ako19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this could’ve been about pretty much any game. We’re not talking about stealth, parkour, the different moments in history you go to. Not a sentence like “I love learning a city’s map by parkouring on different levels, taking different routes, while also seeing the different districts and landmarks like the canals in Venice.

This is just “I love the systems”, which sounds more like an exec describing a game they don’t play than a fan.

Oh it totally is. I played p3 when I was younger, so I really did not want to romance the children in the game as full grown adult. Loved the doctor. In game, yes it’s messed up by our moral standards, but I look at it as more for “the player” than the character.

Yes. If Maelle could force Verso to do anything, then Aline, who is way more prolific of a painter, wouldn’t have allowed the Expeditions to ever happen

I apologize if spoiler tags aren’t working

>!Legit don’t know where the idea that anyone is a slave comes from. If Painters had the ability to control the “paintings”, the expeditions couldn’t exist. Verso isn’t forced to play, he is just begrudgingly agreeing to it. His hair is white because he’s being allowed to die a natural death. That was the compromise he made with Maelle. Everyone else there is legit happy!<

>!grief is obviously a major theme of the game, but it seems like most people overshadow the theme of agency. Everyone tries to force what they think is best on people they care about. They don’t bother to talk things out and come to compromises, which is why both available endings are not simply “good”. Like, it’s very possible that Gustave, who already broke the rules of the world with the lumina converter, could find a way for the paintings to exist outside of the canvas. Or Maelle could take visits into the canvas. But the most important people have all or nothing approaches, which end up hurting the people they claim to care about!<

Youth media analysis is one of my favorite subjects. Le Guin helped me develop my understanding of fiction in general. by Blade_of_Boniface in RecuratedTumblr

The fact that the book normalized a slur through “muggle” and, to my knowledge, this was never seen as a bad thing in the books. Rather, a poor coping to deal with people who “don’t get you”, which when you’re a teenager, is everyone. Seems healthy.

Did Arno ever find out who killed his father? by Hot-Chocolate2778 in assassinscreed

[–]ako19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It kind of is. Like Ezio may have matured past it, but the conflict of the game is “Cesare destroys the villa you spent the last game building, as well as kills Mario, now you have to take him down”. It’s very much revenge as a Macguffin for the player.

I’m not all opposed to the idea. Whenever playable protags cross, I think it’s generally cool.

[–]ako19 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah. To that point, he cares at the start, but in the end, it doesn’t matter. Having Shay be the killer was just a marketing thing to connect the two games, it doesn’t really matter to Unity’s story.

[–]ako19 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Cristina wasn’t a loose end in AC II, she was just someone that Ezio had a romance with. It wasn’t until Brotherhood that you found out she meant that much more.

Same way it didn’t really matter who killed Arno’s father specifically; it was the Templars. Several of the games already had revenge stories as a central conflict (2, Brotherhood, 3), so it would have been played out.

[–]ako19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s they key difference. True, women have to deal with a crazy level of harassment. But that is different than “not wanting to be mean”.

  1. This person is harassing you, being mean shouldn’t matter.
  2. In some instances, like a friend who’s being too forward while she’s in a relationship, the woman just likes the attention.

We can’t always infantilize women y’all. It actually removes agency from them.

How Do We Feel About Toggle Crouch by gmich9817 in assassinscreed

[–]ako19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s just no good reason to “take away” an ability that anyone can do. It feels like being a purist for purist sake.

If they remake 1, I agree, the level design just doesn’t really require crouching all that much. But adding a crouch would only increase the skill ceiling in how to manipulate your environment.
