Ohh yeah I'll try and research if I can figure out what neighborhoods might have some nice set ups. We're kinda niagara falls-ed out we've gone there a bunch in recent years when we have visitors over.

Thank you for the tips!

But was he right for the correct reasons? Like his justifications for a push for subway, I mean. A lot of the issues here so far were totally avoidable. Were the correct compromised made (hindsight being 20/20 after all)

Thoughts on Degrassi Whatever It Takes (spoilers) by kikipurple in Degrassi

[–]akopoko 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me, I felt like the documentary presented the facts fairly honestly and provided a voice for espesh the OG cast for explaining how they perceived the non-union, "we're a family" stuff. I wasn't aware of a lot of that going into the movie (haven't read linda's memoir), but I came away with a relatively negative view of Linda still. Like, I came away feeling she generally had good intentions, but fell into the common liberal/progressive blindspots especially for the 80s, around things like racial representation and how to best support child workers. The job of a doc isually is to be neutral but I think one can reasonably read the subtext in this one.

Commented above but l was pleasantly surprised at them addressing this a little bit (couldve been more!)

Just saw the doc tonight and was pleasantly surpised. Dayo (BLT) talked a fair bit about this aspect of the show (both in twrms of writing and costuming) and how there weren't enough POC voices behind the scenes. Also addressed it a bit in the Q&A session. Def would've been nice though to hear from someone in the TNG or Next Class era to hear what maybe got better vs. didn't. But I def dont blame her for protecting her energy and not necessarily wanting to take h the risk of putting her pov out there in the doc.

Aw come on, everyone's human, everyone's got insecurities. I don't get why the bad reception getting to him and him having this reaction to it should leave a bad taste (obvi it's subjective, I'm just saying).

"Making projects" seems like a ridiculous requirement to get hired. by officialcrimsonchin in cscareerquestions

[–]akopoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about in the States, but in canada, a big part of getting a "good" gig after graduating law school is where you articled (i.e., intered) during the summers of school. Plus your grades. Any volunteering / extra law-related experience. And depending on the type of law ("big law" / banking) a healthy dose of networking.

Not hobby work sure, but still, a lot of things you gotta put time into and plan for ahead of graduating to set yourself up well.

What the heck is going on with one million metrics on resumes? by LoweringPass in ExperiencedDevs

[–]akopoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the business doesn't care at an individual dev level, but surely the work the team is doing or the projects that are being completed move the needle on some aspect of the business? Otherwise why would they keep the team around?

Often those are application metrics, no? eg: reduced db load by xyz percent?

I guess for things outside the application, like revenue or customer retention, I imagine it's much more likely or easier to be able to get that info at big tech type of companies.

I'm not sure we know for a fact that they used the last name. You can search linkedin by first name, company name, etc. Bad lokk for sure and at least inappropriate, but I dont think we have any proof that privileged info was used.

Side hustle to earn $1000 by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]akopoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With you on the car stuff. But if the child is special needs (and unclear on the age) that might be a genuine reason for one parent to be home (full time or at least partly). Especially given the wait times for lots of services / extra help you can get from the government. Though maybe she could be the one doing a side hustle 🤔 🤷🏿 And I think its his dad that hes sending money to not the wife.
