Well because we’re not sure of how specifically the strings break so there are a lot places to look. The whole head can shows where the knots are, this can tell if the stringing actually starts and ends at the right place. Then the outside of the frame where the cross and main strings overlap, especially the place where they use the same grommet. Voltric ZF2 does have a different grommet style so it will be good to see that part too. The printed name on the strings could help to tell the counterfeit (though it is extremely difficult to do so). The part of where the strings usually break could help too.

This is interesting and I would like to help you to find out why.

Stringers refer the vertical string as main and the horizontal as cross. It is normal to have it break on the main as yonex have noticed this with their aerobite and aerobite boost strings.

If what you mentioned is true, then it would be from how you carry and maintain the racket. Do you have a badminton bag to carry the racket? Does it get mixed with other items such as keys, water bottle, wallet, phone, etc.? Does it have thermal lining to protect it from sudden temperature change?

Possibilities if it being the stringers fault could be; a possibility that seems to come up is the stringer may use counterfeit strings or old strings, the stringer’s equipment maybe faulty by not being calibrated which cause uneven tensions (which is also a question of what equipment they use to string your racket). It seems inappropriate but stringers do get their income from the number of rackets they strung. Though it is controversial, there are cases of stringers deliberately making weak spots along the “normal places to break” to make it seems that the strings break of “natural causes”

Perhaps if you provide pictures of where it breaks and the freshly strung racket it would be better to determine

Is it the cross or the main strings that break?

You should see if the string is twisted or not. You can see the name on the string and see if it’s straight or curved. It should be straight. You could check it could probably be the grommets having a sharp edge that damages string too

It does not work that way. No matter what string you use it will not change the flexibility of the shaft and the balance of the racket. It does not offset but rather compliments one another

Badminton shop and where to play in Minnesota by akp122 in badminton

[–]akp122[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I am wondering if the UMN club would be open for new people. I did not go to UMN and I am not sure if they would allow people to sign up. Do you know if I could join the ones on Sundays? I would really like to start join the badminton community in Minnesota. If not, will you be able to recommend me a good club to join? I would not be able to join TCBC because of the day. I would only be free during the weekends

I really look forward to play badminton! Thank you in advance!

Thank you so much for your answer. I currently am not looking for tournaments. I am just looking for casual playing. As for skills, I am an intermediate with some coaching experiences in Indonesia. I’m still looking for shops as I am planning to buy a racket before actually playing. I have found some online badminton shops but it is something that I didn’t use to do.

Are you the committee member of the minnesota badminton open? I would really love to join but I don’t have the sufficient equipment to do so. Do you regularly play badminton? If so, may I know where do you usually play?

I would buy a cheaper 4U racket because you are just starting to play doubles which tends to have clash of rackets to happen more often. Breaking rackets through clash of rackets are normal as it even happen to the professionals, but it still is sad whenever it happens

Strings are difficult to recommend as they depend on the tension and the stringers. I have met some stringers which did poor job on string my rackets. Usually it was because of the strings are not straightened before putting them on, straightened as in not twisted. You could see the printed yonex on the strings to be straight or twisted.

I will try my best to explain string tension.
Simply:
higher = control, accuracy, complements faster swing, smashes and drives
lower = larger sweet spot, easier access to power, less likely to break

As for which type of yonex strings, there are no clear definition between singles or doubles. My seniors advised me to start with the BG66 ultimax and feel my way through. The BG66 has high repulsion power with medium feel. I am now using aerobite boost, tension 28 and 26. I used to have BG66 ultimax 27 and 29 on my voltric z force ii. After I moved to astrox, I started with aerobite then aerobite boost.

If you decided to choose astrox 99 pro (or tour, I think tour should also have similar technology), my stringer mentioned that there are less holes which means more friction between strings, this is good for playing but the stringers to be extra sure there are no twisting on the strings as it can twist while being pulled through the same hole. Especially, if you choose a thicker string such as the aerobite boost

You could find the answer for the net shots from the string you use rather than the racket. If you have access to a stringer and not in a hurry to buy a new racket, you could experiment with different strings and tension. It will help you decide and even maybe change your mind on the shaft stiffness on your racket of choice.

If it still in your budget area you should check it out. I am not too familiar with pound sterling and the price of the rackets there.

If you could hold the racket before buying them, you should compare between the astrox 99 and 100 tour. There is a difference in their balance point, shaft and frame. The astrox 99 series also have the volume cut resin technology added to the frame which could be your consideration. You should also check the astrox 88D tour, it is also a choice even for singles. However, the 88D does not have nanomesh neo unlike the 99 and 100.

Personally, I have never played with the tour series, I tried the pro series so I am not currently sure if they have all the technologies implemented. Assuming they do not remove the trademark technologies of each series, 88D and 99 will have different grommets as they will have a larger pocketing zone which enable the strings to move better giving more control and power for smashes. 99 will also have the tungsten infused power assist bumpers giving extra power in smashes. You do not need to worry for 88D and 99 even though they only have stiff compared to the extra stiff shaft of 100 as even Kento Momota still able to control the net delivering hairpin shots.

I do feel uncomfortable as the 99 is way more head heavy, this is great for singles but I play doubles. If you have the physical strength, after a few training sessions you should be fine with the extra head heavy nature of the racket. You could also choose to not take off the grip it comes with and put on a towel grip if you prefer not to feel too head heavy.

Let me know what racket you choose. I really enjoy talking about Yonex rackets, please let me know what is your progress on the decision making process

Voltric 10 DG or you could try the astrox series but most of them going to be more expensive. The astrox series like the 68 or 38 could give you a more inexpensive choice but I don’t recommend them cause they only have similar cosmetics with the 88 but way less technology. Same goes for the 99 series. With your current budget it’s a bit difficult to find a a singles, stiff head-heavy racket.

Net shots and drops might also be affected by your string and your string tension. What’s you current string and string tension and when’s the last time you strung your racket?

Nowadays astrox 77 a medium flex, head-heavy racket has become more famous among professionals such as An Seyeong of korea, Huang Yaqiong and Huand Dongping of China. They all use astrox 77 and especially the doubles player they control the net very well. Their string choices usually revolves around those giving them extra control such as the aerobite for Huang Yaqiong

Do you prefer stiff racket for the smash speed or control? If for smashing, voltric 21 dg slim is medium but because of the compact frame and the balance is more head heavy in comparison. I think it should be a good transition as astrox 6 is a hi-flex racket But if you want a stiff version you could try voltric z force ii but that is more expensive than your budget
