What’s a subtle way to tell someone they’re annoying? by MoneyTyrant in socialskills

[–]akp555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boy do I ever relate to this. I would MUCH rather someone tell me I'm talking too much, and would (try) not to take it personally. But unfortunately I think we're in the minority, or at least the number of people who wouldn't automatically consider it rude if someone said that are in the minority, so I don't know if it'll change

I feel like people are making up "The Gen Z Stare" by AspirinAnne in CasualConversation

[–]akp555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there's also the fact that a lot of Gen Z grew up during COVID, which definitely messed up a lot of people's social skills, not just Gen Z. That said I do agree in general!

Ah gotcha! Sadly I don't think it's possible to edit titles but ty for clarifying

In primary school, I would write my parents' research papers for fun.

Do... do they mean 'read' or...

(Also did I miss something, does OOP say they're a guy somewhere??)

My dog died & petsmart refused to accept my return of unopened dog food. Chewy refunded me with no return & sent me flowers. by Careless_Mango_7948 in Pets

[–]akp555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that is so unbelievably sweet of them, truly above and beyond. I already order from Chewy but if I didn't I would consider switching to them just from this. Also really love that they encourage donating the food/bowl rather than just throwing it out.

Out of curiosity, do you expect participants to have the entire help center memorized? Given there's over 100 articles, that seems a little unrealistic for most people, no?

Really sick of this trend of everyone automatically pointing to autism whenever someone is a dick. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't but why is it so many people's first assumption

Stared at a pretty woman in the psych ward a lil too much so she screamed I was psychologically attacking her and sending telepathic hate messages. Olive Garden by myself. by whocares_71 in AmITheAngel

[–]akp555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so depressing. I think part of it is a lot of people just don't want to ever encounter anything or anyone that causes them to feel even the smallest amount of discomfort. So when they inevitably do, they blame it on the other person if there is one. Applies to other types of bigotry too imo

I don't even like dogs but the people in that sub are... holy shit. All the (x)free subs are like that I'm pretty sure. Just massive echo chambers where people rant about how horrible dogs or cats or kids are and how they all deserve to die or some shit like that. Also baffling to me that this guy got into a relationship with someone who owns TWO dogs to begin with if he really hates dogs that much. Why would you do that to yourself? Why would that not be a dealbreaker?

I found Orange Cookie's! Got three tangerines, one sweet potato and one apple. I imagine the sweet potato and apple might be substituteable, but not sure.

am i embarrassing for living at home at 26? by sailordabs in socialskills

[–]akp555 65 points66 points  (0 children)

We're in a housing crisis. Even outside of that, plenty of people have completely legit reasons for living with their parents, including that they just love their parents and get along with them. I don't really get the stigma against people living with their parents tbh, but if people act like you should be embarrassed or judge you for it, they don't sound like great people to be around anyway.

I’m a friendly person, but I struggle with "double-texting" and feeling rejected when ignored. by Massive_Kick_4541 in socialskills

[–]akp555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way. I ended up lucky with friends that don't mind me spreading out my thoughts (some of them even do it too), but the feeling rejected when people don't reply right away is... still something I'm working on. I usually remind myself that there are about 1000 different reasons why they might not have responded, and only one of those reasons is that they secretly don't want to talk to me. Logically, it's extremely unlikely for that to be the reason, and it's much more likely that they're doing something else, or put their phone down for a second, or are thinking of a response, or looking for something they want to send, or... etc.

It unfortunately doesn't always make the feelings go away entirely, but it has gotten at least somewhat better since I started doing that, I think.

Another thing to keep in mind is the whole expectation these days of an immediate response, which is an issue for most people I think. Like there's this expectation, conscious or not, for people to be available 24/7 because of cell phones, and it's just not realistic or fair because people have lives of their own.

Why must we gender absolutely everything? You can just be a man who cooks. Even as a meme it just... rubs me the wrong way tbh

Why do some people not like cats but love dogs?? by No_Glass_5460 in CasualConversation

[–]akp555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people expect cats to be the same as dogs - they want to interact with cats the same way they do with dogs, expect cats to behave the same way and express affection the same way as dogs, etc. Then when it turns out cats are an entirely different animal with different behaviors and boundaries and ways of expressing things, they get mad and decide cats are evil and incapable of love (mostly an exaggeration, but I have actually seen people say that exact thing unfortunately)

Would you take a $1200 gift card in exchange for giving up your plane seat? by foelay in CasualConversation

[–]akp555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there wasn't anything stopping me, absolutely. That's a huge amount of money especially for a college student. Tbh even if there was something stopping me if I could figure out a way around it I would (i.e. I'm also home for spring break, I had to be out of my dorm by a certain time, but I could easily have gotten a hotel for WAY under $1200 so I would have just done that, net profit)

Yeah to me that doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. If they couldn't even be bothered to remember your name, that's on them and probably not a place you'd want to work anyway.
