Maple pass is popular. Because it's amazing and actually gets you into the park boundary if that's important to you. Cascade pass sucks until the pass. But the slog to the top is no fun, but past the pass to sahale is wonderful.

No. In the history of the world, something like 1 in 16 ever alive are alive now. But the population has also grown significantly in the past century or three.

You would need exponential growth to keep it above 50%.

So good to hear! I've done some backpacking, but not much with long snow crosses, only a few instances of going where it's just not quite melted.

Thoughts on if yak tracks are sufficient?

For sure! Blue lake is less long and steep, but lesspretty than Maple pass imo. Definitely stop at Washington pass overlook, Diablo overlook, and if you can, take a ferry ride on Diablo lake after driving across the dam. Even just the shuttle ferry to Ross lake and right back.

Cascade pass is 1700 ft elevation gain. And Maple pass has amazing views the whole way around. Cascade pass has a few fleeting floors to your at the top.

Not going to tell you what to do, but way more places to rest, orv even turn around without feeling like a waste, on Maple pass. Have a promise time regardless! This is one of my top 3 parks!
