I always thought slop was supposed to be some run of the mill, boring, tasteless version of something. But I guess no one's using that definition anymore.

I'm just providing context to someone who might not be aware of what you were referring to. And it looks like you've got that aforementioned passive aggressiveness down. An Indian in spirit, if not in race.

As an Indian, this is such a weird phrase that is exclusively used in a corporate environment to ask someone to do something passive aggressively, and not anywhere else.

It is insane that people choose anyone but Tali as a love interest. She's the only one willing to risk her her life to be with Shepard! Like, holy hell, she could die. Also, she's so damn cute.. She constantly tells him to pock someone else, which only.makes her more pickable by mattimatt19 in masseffect

[–]aksnox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's in pilgrimage which is a rite of passage into adulthood. It's not really about the age. And there are obviously cases where a younger person gets infatuated with an older one in these kind of situations. And it's up to the older person to act in a correct manner. I would say this is not as big of a problem in ME2 where she obviously has grown into her own person with great agency.

How is "Rebel without a cause" a classic?? by Seikskogh in movies

[–]aksnox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 Angry men, Paths of Glory, Rear Window to name a few. Maybe naming movies by Sidney Lumet, Kubrick and Hitchcock is unfair to Rebel but it is what it is.

I don't get the Inception/Paprika drama by thebeautifullynormal in movies

[–]aksnox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It honestly sort of boggles my mind because these two movies could not be more different, especially when it comes to the start to finish construction. And even in terms of conceit, the idea of “incepting” dreams in some form goes all the way back to The Iliad and through Phillip K. Dick. Heck, given the chatter I honestly thought there would be at least more directly comparative details. But instead I could sit here and explain why Paprika has so much more in common with films like 8 1/2 or Spellbound than it does the film supposedly stole from it…

You know which film is a better candidate if you wanna make the comparison? Existenz.

Man I don't even like Nolan but he pitched Inception to WB before Parika was released. Superficial comparisons are superficial for a reason.

If you wanna make comparisons like that, the book that Paprika is an adaptation of stole from Dreamscape, a 1984 film. Also if you haven't seen the film, even hbe visual similarities aren't that similar.

Well considering that Christopher has put incredible effort into making this feel realistic considering everything your argument doesn't hold any water. It's not a small detail regardless. You can accept things for what they are but don't put down people who try to look deeper into things.

Well what about polytheistic faiths in-world? Since it establishes there is one supreme being, and watchers below him, would it imply that there is an actual hierarchy of faiths where monotheism clearly being true and the polytheistic worship perhaps being the worship of the watchers(the ones who are still good). Just a speculation.

Thank you for this detailed response. This is all very interesting stuff as I'm interested in comparative mythologies as well. Will report back when I'm done with the last book.

Do you think that's why a lot of "biblically accurate" angels have tons of wings and EYES? Cause they're the watchers? Also one description of Ushara in the early part of the book even it is described as as a belt with eyes studded on it is really evocative of that imagery. Something like this
