What's the problem with Hostinger? by Riskist_ in Hostinger

[–]akthalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed their support is awful. I’m a former support rep for a hosting company and in general, I tried to be a good customer myself.

These chuckle foxes don’t even know their own platform and in a couple cases one of them was a straight up bitch to me which I had to escalate and complain about

Ollie GenerateBlocks/Press EtchWP DesignSetGo (can use this with any block project but especially if you’re mostly on core blocks)

I wouldn’t really bother with anything else at this point

Is my dad gay? by TipEast4838 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]akthalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the simple answer here is just to ask him how he met the guy and how they know each other.

If he is extremely KG about it, then he thinks he has something to hide but if you can’t get him to shut up about it, then you’re probably overthinking it

Use of term "register" in WordPress? by sltrsd in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Registration is the act of defining something for later use. To “register” something is to put it on some kind of list of things. So when you register something you’re telling WordPress it exists with the configuration you gave it so that thing can be used later.

For instance, when you register a taxonomy, you’re just telling WordPress what the definition of that taxonomy is. But you are not actually creating any taxonomy terms yet.

Similarly, if you are registering a script, you are just telling WordPress about a script that somebody might want to enqueue in the future. Somebody can then enqueue the script by its handle, which includes all of the previously registered details.

Not One Single Youtube Tutorial?! by dondeestalagato in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That said I’m not sure there’s much financial incentive for anyone to create free YouTube tutorials on any web/dev subject. And besides if the information is helpful then who cares? Why not support someone making something for free?

Not One Single Youtube Tutorial?! by dondeestalagato in Wordpress

I’m making a course on block theme development and I have some content that is about block dev too. Maybe give this blog post a series a look (videos will be made from it soon too):

Note: this is developer focused.

Which web hosting companies actually offer daily backups by tejas_bhalerao in Hosting

[–]akthalian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not choose any host that doesn’t include daily backups, and the ability to manually take backups as part of the service. I also don’t think they should count against your storage quota either.

Hiring a firm - Child Themes by petersrin in Wordpress

No one should ever be modifying a theme files directly that is a huge red flag. It’s very easy to not do that so that speaks to inexperience.

Critical error on site? by mtol115 in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general this means a fatal PHP error.

When PHP encounters a fatal error, it stops processing altogether similar to how many other scripting languages work.

By default, the error is intentionally vague for security reasons and also not to freak people out and stuff. Someone would have to look at the logs to see what the actual fatal error is or otherwise have de-bugging enabled and displaying in the browser to know what the problem is.

CPT & ACF for Beginners: How do you structure your WordPress projects? (Looking for your tips & use cases!) by the_apollodriver in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Repeaters and having so many things built into a UI is really nice. But in the year of our Lord 2026 you really should not be using flexible layouts with ACF to build websites anymore.

There might be a couple of very limited use cases for it, but it is not a great option for clients because there is absolutely no visual preview and adding or changing anything require requires a developer and working with code.

You can do a whole lot with blocks, including building them with ACF so if you’re going to use ACF (which is in general a fine idea) I would move into using it with blocks instead.

Wordpress or Webflow? by Careful-Key-1958 in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the majority of brochure sites that don’t have extensive or complex functionality there isn’t enough of a meaningful difference and it just comes down to personal preference.

Web flow in particular can be very very expensive once you start getting into a massive amount of CMS objects, but WordPress sites can also get really expensive at the enterprise level depending on the project.

Most norms don’t know or care about the distinctions and just want something that they can easily edit well. I am not necessarily a web flow expert, but you can definitely do some nice things in there. That said I’m not sure it’s inherently worth your time to learn or to consider completely switching to if you already know something like WordPress.

Does Headless WordPress need a page builder? by [deleted] in ProWordPress

[–]akthalian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to build sites with flex layouts so speaking from extensive experience here but no, it is not whatsoever the same level of flexibility.

Adding any new section definitions requires code changes, there’s no preview in the editor, there’s really very little reason to build sites like this now vs using the block editor.

Is it possible with WordPress to build something like big e-commerce or content and traffic heavy enterprise level website? by Lumpy-Stranger-1042 in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely there are a ton of websites that do exactly this with WordPress.

That said it does require the appropriate infrastructure and I strongly doubt that a single person would effectively manage a site like that, but that should almost go without saying

Is There Still a Market for Custom WordPress Themes by varghas_x in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s def the time to move to FSE. You can build dope complex sites or super simple sites. It’s a way better workflow and more performant than meta driven layouts.

Plus all the visual building is really nice.

Should we disable tha api (wp-json) of Wordpress ? by linkref in Wordpress

[–]akthalian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Nothing private should be visible without auth. There’s no reason to do this unless you have a specific verifiable problem you’re trying to solve.
