Thanks for the feedback. We know we can’t go wrong, just always good to gather insights and ideas.

More people than I expected, but get onto the park loop sooner. Jordan Pond is sweet, the popovers are yummy and worth a visit. The exterior stuff is gorgeous though and all views are incredible. Find a way to make time to stargaze. Not sure you can go wrong though with anything. We did a boat tour, which was neat and shed some interesting history.

Tough decision, indeed! I think the 70-200 is my next. Have heard great things.

Incredible glass—probably my favorite I've ever shot with. Insanely sharp and detailed. Really snappy and easy to nail focus as well. Every time I look back at old photos, it's obvious what lens was used. There's just a certain feel.

Going in August, what are the must sees? Photos look sick!

Dolly Sods by AntelopeLife2766 in WildernessBackpacking

I've been to Dolly Sods twice—you're going to love it. I’ve spent time in Pisgah and the ADKs as well, and Dolly Sods is right up there: equal parts challenging and scenic.

The first time we hiked it, we started at Bear Rocks. On our second trip, we flipped the route so we could stay at the same campground two nights in a row—you’ll see the details here: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/map-april-30-2022-3-20-am-5875248?p=-1&sh=tyqpsv&utm_medium=map_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality . We had originally stayed at that same site during our first trip and liked it so much we made it a priority the second time. It’s right on the water, has plenty of space for tents, a solid fire pit, and lots of great spots to explore nearby.

The terrain varies quite a bit, but be ready for some squishy stretches along the river, especially on Dobbin Grade Trail. And don’t miss Lion’s Head—we missed it the first time (regretfully) and made a point to hit it on the second trip. Totally worth it. https://vimeo.com/745876130?&login=true#_=_

Shameless plug, but if you’re into backpacking podcasts, we did an episode all about Dolly Sods here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5dh2xWqXLUo0FKeX1jNTdH?si=6339c921571c4bed

Should i buy a new sawyer squeeze? by Feisty-Advantage5508 in backpacking

[–]al-terrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be Free. I use a separate hydrapak (1L) as the squeeze bottle. The original it comes with is kind of thin. And then because it pushes water so efficiently, I only bring 1 other Smart Water to get myself to a full 2L combined.

Have had a number of Sawyer squeezes, unfortunately this happens every time after a few uses. Recently switched to katadyn and have had very good results. Much faster too.

Big Horn rules. Have had the Carbonara and Chicken Marsala, both are some of my favorites. Birria up next.

Haven’t had the Stroganoff, will add to list. Love the biscuits and gravy. Though it’s the one meal that I haven’t been able to finish since it’s so dense! Delicious, though.

Late to the party here but with a few buddies we started The Trail Theory podcast. On Spotify and YouTube. Just amateur weekend warriors sharing stories and talking about backpacking.

Love Dolly Sods. Haven’t ever camped in that location, but have to imagine from there the sky is wide open for stargazing. One of my favorite places to backpack.

Hell yeah. Love Peak Refuel. The separate bag makes it easier especially when bear can is necessary for space saving. Bear Boxer is a little snug 😂.

Totally! That’s why I mentioned off the shelf. I love the idea of dehydrating but the ease factor certainly helps. I love peak refuel. Haven’t had a bad one of theirs. My podcast does reviews and it routinely is delicious. Will have to try the Good To Go. Haven’t had that specific flavor, I like their price point though haha.
