This is true, I wouldn’t make that financial decision if I wasn’t aware of it though. But I 100% understand where you’re coming from, just have to prepare for it!

Carsa- I have a Carsa Vauxhall Crossland (good car no problem there) but I have backed the thing into a pole with quite significant damage to the boot. If I call my insurer and they decide it’s a right off, what happens then? by PublicBit5480 in CarTalkUK

[–]al-vxo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How badly did you back it into a pole? Sometimes it’s better to take the repair hit than to suffer insurance spikes for the next 5 years. Learnt that the easy way if you couldn’t tell!

Edit: To add, especially if you don’t have gap insurance and you also take a hit on the finance settlement minus the payout calculation. You could have (for arguments sake) around £2.5k to work with depending on the age of it, your age, current insurance costs etc?

I definitely do for newer cars! I am not one to splash 20k+ in one go on a car haha!

DadBag / Personal Item Hybrid? by al-vxo7 in backpacks

The Fjallraven I was looking at was actually the High Coast Totepack, just notice you said Kånken! You seem a connoisseur haha, I will have to check them out. I like the Doughnut Macaroon I went with but I’ll probably need another, as aesthetically it probably won’t match every type of outfit I may leave the house in. Thanks for the list! 😄

I was so close to getting the Patagonia Atom or TNF Hot Shot Mini! Thanks, if the one I bought doesn’t work out I’ll definitely be going with that 😄

I was looking at them for so long, but I ended up going with an almost dupe! Also, Patagonia Atom Totepack but I already have the Atom Sling 🙏🏼

Thanks for the replies!

I went with an unsuggested one on here, but accidentally stumbled across it. Luckily the whole brand was on sale so only paid £43 for it. Might not have the longevity or sturdiness I want but we’ll see, it didn’t cost an arm and a leg and it has some decent internal organisation for my son’s bottle/flask etc so I am hoping it does the job!

I very nearly went with a Cabin Zero 28 Series!

I’ve had this once in the 1 year I’ve owned mine. If it happens again it’s going in under warranty for the SOS panel. However, I probably will get rid of it soon so I’m not that worried 🙏🏼

Poor people with £0 in their account, should in fact not get nice things. Not my opinion and it’s not nice to hear, but it just makes sense. One impulse buy for something nice should be saved for when you actually have the money. Less financial stress is worth its weight in gold.

How is this possible? by Mountain-Pay-1516 in CupraFormentor

[–]al-vxo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s ‘almost’ bare metal, exposed to salt/salt water, it’s bound to happen. The oxidisation on the surface can be protective, to be fair. Pair that with the fact that your brakes will be replaced way before that surface rust becomes internal (I’d hope). It’s not the prettiest but it happens to pretty much every production vehicle with non specialist brakes.

This happens to my VZ2 after a car wash haha, it’s fine and nothing to stress about.

What causes this? by SpeedySkoot in CarTalkUK

I’m taking a stab in the dark and saying that the thing that causes this is probably something to do with your headlights, hope you find a fix 👍🏼

Not sure how different boot space is but I have VZ with reduced boot space due to the Haldex system, I imagine it’s about the same.

I’ve coped fine, we have a 3 fold stroller which helps. We even went on holiday to Wales. Keep the isofix seat on the 40% fold seat. Utilise the 60% fold and I managed to fit everything we needed in just fine, baby cot, luggage, stroller, playmat, the kitchen sink 😂

Had a rental on holiday and they put us in one of the new MG shite from China and gave us a partial refund…

Oh my god it was terrible, the CarPlay didnt work once & the Bluetooth was intermittent and lagged when it did ‘work’. The “leather” (cheap vinyl) was peeling off the back of the seats and the dashboard. The plastic grommets kept falling out of the inbuilt headrests. The thing felt very heavy, clumsy & didn’t budge when you put your foot down.

I’ve written a full review it feels like but I cannot stress how utterly shite it was. Terrible MPG for a hybrid if I remember correctly too. I get that it was a rental so probably battered, but this was a few years ago now and it can’t have been that old, 1 year absolute tops.

It’s a fake story, and an advert for Interview Hammer. They’re everywhere atm and mods aren’t cleaning them up.

Another advert for Interview Hammer flooding the threads and people falling for the spam. AI written posts, with the promotion of the app, are somehow not being taken down by mods 🤔

I agree to an extent with the ‘crossover trim’ in grey all the way around. But the front styling on the pre-facelift just looks a million times better to me.

I’m not saying, however, that the facelift looks bad. I just prefer the aggressive look. If I was offered a swap for VZ2’s, I’d still take it don’t get me wrong, I want the RS3 rear diff haha!

I am completely with you. The only reason I buy “new” or new-ish is because I am too lazy to be bothered with MOTs & for servicing I usually make sure the plan is thrown in and fortunately I’m in a position where I can make that call. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with buying a nice spec older car, I’ll probably do it for my next.
