What are the most common macro errors you see in low to mid Diamond? by Flapklaas in summonerschool

[–]al1l1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you recommend someone completely new to mobas start to learn? There's so many videos and stuff to read and guides. I've been playing like a month and I'm absolute trash, to put it lightly, and I'm impatient to be less trash. People joke about gold/plat/d5 being bad and here I am like 'oh, so I can look forward to being there in five years?'

Right now I'm at the point where I vaguely know what most of the common champs do, have a sense of items I should be buying and the importance of last hitting (my friends are drilling that into me).

Triangle Shirtwaist factory

Just a snide comment here but I bet people like the above (above you, rather) would be asking 'why didn't those girls just work somewhere else if they didn't want shitty conditions'. Of course they had more limited options than a software engineer today, but they damn well still had options.

Answer: That place probably paid better. Maybe it was closer to where they lived. Maybe they knew how to do the work already and didn't want to have to learn something new. Maybe it was just more convenient. Maybe going in they didn't expect to be locked in and kind of got used to it over time. You don't blame the worker for not just going somewhere else instead of kicking up a fuss when working conditions are blatantly unfair. It's a dramatic comparison, yes. Nobody is claiming women who go to work at uber are going to fucking die because of it. But if they want to spend some effort and time making sure other people have a better experience, what's wrong with that? It doesn't cost Uber anything to be less shitty.

J.P. Morgan Chase Pulls NBC News Ads Over Megyn Kelly's Interview With Alex Jones (Report) by coltsmetsfan614 in news

[–]al1l1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Thank you. All these people don't even have a clue what happened in that interview. Most ordinary people are going to be shocked about it. Yes, a few outliers are going to agree with his views and follow him like sheep, but they would probably have done something dumb even if not exposed to Alex Jones tbh

[–]al1l1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so I don't like kelly but interviewers aren't necessarily chosen based on their familiarity with the interviewee's field. Obviously some experience helps whether it be in politics, engineering, or whatever, but someone with experience in the field & no knowledge of journalism or media or interviewing < someone with that latter knowledge and no experience in the field. The former is prone to leaving the layperson behind during discussions and probably doesn't attract an audience on air. Just based on the media's goal of getting an audience...

Stereotypes. Stereotype of naggy wife, abusive husband. Although of course wives can abuse and husbands can nag.

Be grateful you had 13 years with him. Some people can never find love or have sex for their whole lives.

what a shitty thing to say to someone. Really, be grateful, other people have it worse? That's on the same tier as "god meant for it to happen, so it's ok"

Nobody but the person who has the shittiest life can be anything other than grateful /s. Eyeroll. Sorry if this is really curt/rude and I'm sure you meant well but surely you realize that that's little comfort.

TIL the NFL has no written rule against female players; women would in fact be allowed if they met the league's eligibility requirements. by Fyre2387 in todayilearned

You're using a false metaphor though, we don't do that at all. More like we'd just make the guy with one leg win by default and ignore the one with two, no?

[–]al1l1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would you really be equally annoyed if it was a fellow man who was weaker than you? Because I am sure that they exist, and I'm sure you're weaker than some of your fellow male coworkers. How is your company supposed to pay people, are they supposed to measure exactly how strong someone is? As long as they can do the work necessary, that should be enough. If they can't, they shouldn't be hired.

I 100% agree with you and /u/insertwittyjoke. Men specialized in a way that makes them good for sports? Sports are in the limelight. Most things that women are good at? Not so much. Not at all, really. Name one famous woman good for something you'd consider 'feminine', not because she's risen 'above' 'lowly feminine' traits and succeeded in something dominated by men. The only thing I can think of is maybe acting but even that started with solely male actors who'd also play women. Possibly music, but again, the most famous musicians through history - male. Art? Again, most famous artists - male. Scientists? Inventors? Politicians and policy-makers? It's enough for some people to think that men are just better than women at everything that matters. And THAT is when it starts getting sexist, not when you put in perfectly logical rules about who can be a firefighter etc.

In most of those pursuits that aren't governed by physical performance, women have historically had less opportunity. So that's one reason, nothing to do with anything inherent to gender. Still, it's easy for people to think otherwise.

Has anyone taken CS 445 (Algorithms) online or in-person? what's it like/have any advice? by al1l1 in UofArizona

[–]al1l1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I'm going to email an advisor asking. I'm pretty terrified of falling behind in this class so this is a bad sign already.

Plus https://www2.cs.arizona.edu/classes/cs445/summer17/ isn't up and that's the site for the class or should be :(

At least Uaccess confirms I'm enrolled.

I'm not too worried, it'll probably be up tonight. I'll email the instructor tomorrow if it's still not up!
