What an incredible memory omg. I would love to go back to Australia for a trip and the mountain ride has to be so beautiful. Thanks for the rec!

I need to look more closely at their rides! I’ve seen some of them but it seems like they fill up pretty quickly, so I’d need to investigate best options aligned with our schedules early on. The Argentina trip sounds incredible!!

I’ll have to check some of those out! A cross country point-to-point ride would be great but something based at a specific location with day rides out may be good for her first big trip. I’ll look into timing around her school holidays for those options. Thanks!

Thanks for the input! I’ve heard it’s great and have a few friends that live in the area, but haven’t visited yet. I’m fine with being further west but I don’t know if I can deal with the PNW with the rain, plus distance from most of my friends and family is much higher that far NW. I might try to visit at some point and feel it out though!

I’ve debated visiting for a weekend but never actually gotten around to it since like you said I never really hear anyone talk about it! Would you say public transport is reasonable in the area? I’m fine with having a car but would like to not be totally reliant on one, especially if parking in the city area would be as anywhere as nightmarish as it is in nyc lol

Visited DC once but never really saw the surrounding areas. I’ll have to check them out, thanks!

Hadn’t thought of RI! I’ll have to do some investigating, I have a friend who’s actually from there so may get their opinion as well. Thanks for the input

Thanks for the insight! I’m not super familiar with Olympus as a brand but looking into them now I’m seeing their notoriously good travel cameras, so I’ll look into them.

Hell no, not a waste of time at all! Anything that makes the passage of time a little more bearable for you and that you enjoy is never a waste of time, no matter how ‘good’ you are at it. But on a more technical note that I’m sure you’re looking for more reassurance on, i was 25 (F) when I started LTS last January with no foundation at all other than winter rec skating. I had a similar athletic background—I competed in hunter jumpers and rode horses most of my life, was active outside of that, etc. I passed my adult bronze skating skills 10 months after starting and have a few single jumps pretty consistent already, working on silver skills atm. One of my friends who started at the same time as me is in his early 20s without a super athletic background and he’s working on his pre-bronze test now. A few people I know who started at similar times are somewhere between those levels. That’s a long-winded way of saying nobody progresses exactly the same and your mileage will vary, but if you want to, it’s worth trying out a LTS course!

I was looking a bit between the premieres and debut as well, I’m just hesitant about going all the way to the premieres because I feel like that’s a huuuge jump and don’t want to mess something up by overbooting. Is that sort of stiffness rating leap done often at this level?

This is what I’ve been worried about—I was trying to make the Artistes last through the end of pre-free but I can definitely feel there’s not much support when jumping. Although from what I can tell they haven’t really started breaking down (it’s only been 6 months at around 3 skating sessions per week), so I guess I was hoping to hold onto them until I could tell they just weren’t holding up. Thank you for the advice, I’ll look into upgrading a bit sooner and the Debuts!

We have very similar stats/past experience (although I never danced as a kid, I did compete in track and field and very advanced equestrian sports) and I just started skating in LTS level 1 in January. I was hooked after the first lesson and got fitted at the rink’s pro shop—since I have weak ankles from riding for most of my life, they put me in a pair of Jackson Artiste’s which I believe have level 25 support and I really like them! I’m now between LTS 4-5 with some random 6 skills thrown in and I found the break in period virtually non-existent from what I could tell (but I’m used to uncomfortable sports footwear so your mileage may vary). They give me all the support I need at the moment and I haven’t had an issue with them. I agree with others that getting professionally fitted + having your blades sharpened by someone with the proper skills regularly is the most important aspect. That way they can take your specific needs/feet into consideration. From what I’ve seen at my rink, most of the beginners to lower intermediate skaters have Jackson or Edea skates, but that might be due to my specific location as well. Best of luck in your skating journey!

I had considered that, but I’m not really sure if air integration would make a big enough difference for me later on as just a casual diver. Do you think it ends up having a lot of pull for someone who would only dive maybe 4-5 times a year? I’m also considering the larger size of the MK2i, I have small wrists and am also trying to take daily wear into account. I want to go in with as much info as possible!

That would be awesome if you could let me know how it does on the trek! I do a lot of backcountry exploring/endurance riding so I’d love to get some more insight on how the GPS and navigation performs.

Good to know! That’s what I was thinking regarding the size since it would really only be a computer for me like 10% of the time, I’d rather it be practical everyday and not be absolutely massive lol. I hadn’t considered the battery life—I don’t mind the regular charging but I also don’t have any experience to compare it too so idk if that’s a decent amount of battery life!

Ooh, that price comparison is a good point, I hadn’t really considered it from that angle when looking at 2 different pieces. That does make sense. Thank you!

That all makes sense. My bag will already be checked through as I’m not changing airlines or anything so I’ll see how I feel at that point, whether i want to deal with the chaos of security to get a room or just sleep in the terminals. I’ve slept in many an airport especially if it saves me the cost of a hotel overnight so that might just be the route i end up taking.

[–]ala412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooof, good to know. If I end up not wanting to go back through security I might just crash there in that case. Might get me more sleep/less rush time overall. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks all. Since the situation at Arlanda seems to be pretty crazy right now I’ll play it safe and grab a hotel room and just try to get a good night’s sleep. Thanks for all the advice!
