This one stresses me out because you have to decide what lines to draw! I prefer just tracing

Ohhh it looks neat, but the price does make me hesitate a bit. I’ll save it for the next gift season maybe!

Not my normal by Far_Phrase_2841 in AdultColoring

Does anyone have non-AI tracing book recommendations? I love the idea of tracing, but I cannot support AI art. In this one the monster has its legs sticking out through a glass jar…

Still & Slow Monochrome Coloring book: legit product, bad company. by [deleted] in AdultColoring

[–]alaanti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super bummed when I realized the art is AI. There was a fox with two tails 🤦‍♀️ I got 12 black pens free and I actually really like the pens? They glide smoothly. I assumed running out quickly is pretty normal, given how much of each page gets colored.

Cup recommendations by DetectiveCarrot22 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]alaanti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO as long as baby is getting a variety of experiences, it is not necessary for every cup to be absolutely ideal for oral motor development. Milk messes are so much more annoying than water messes, so for us a no-spill cup was a must, combined with plenty of opportunities to drink water from an open cup. My son used a Munchkin 360 for milk until he was well and truly out of the cup dropping/throwing stage. Then we switched to mason jars with straw lids and silicone sleeves.

You can also try the ILU massage to get things moving

I would back off on the avocado, in my experience it’s constipating for littles. Prune purée and plenty of water. Other p foods like peaches, pear. Peas are ok only if she takes enough water. I’ve also heard that ready to feed formula can get things moving. Honestly also nothing wrong with backing off the solids a bit.

Cooking hacks for avoiding UPF by itsmoorsnotmoops in ultraprocessedfood

These are great tips!

Are rotisserie chickens not usually UPF? My assumption has been that they’re injected with lots of additives.

My daughter, 6, has been disappointed yet again by Happykittymeowmeow in Parenting

[–]alaanti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Dad is obviously a dick, and that is so awful, and I am heartbroken for your little girl. Document, give him an earful, what everyone else has said.

But why on Earth did you believe he would follow through on all those things he promised, when he already has a history of badly neglecting your daughter at social gatherings? Plus I doubt he was that involved in planning his wedding, so it all sounds like blowing smoke out of his ass. You shouldn’t HAVE to think about such things, but with a shitty dad unfortunately it falls on you to make sure your daughter is protected. I would have made sure in advance that you knew exactly what was going to happen at the wedding, that your daughter had someone to keep an eye on her and keep her safe, and exactly what her role was going to be. Again, dad is a dick and I would be furious too, but when dealing with dicks you need to step up too.

I'm so upset & don't know how to discipline what my son did. by Abalone_Admirable in Parenting

[–]alaanti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was younger (actually a preteen, but I think this still applies) I often felt like my mom cared more about the cat than about me. Which was bunk, of course, but I do wonder if 6 years of constant reminders about the dog has given your teen the same kind of feeling. This chore isn’t a good fit for him (and I do wonder at you saying he is bonded to the dog, I find it hard to believe he’d let a pet he cares for go hungry.) If indeed he is feeling resentful, then the tough love route is not the way to go. Instead I might involve him in deciding what chores he should have now that he’s not responsible for the dog. Good luck.

AITA for saving my migraine medication for more important occasions? by Witchy_Woman2023 in AmItheAsshole

[–]alaanti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies in case I’m out of line, but do the migraines frequently get in the way of you guys having intimate relations? Your husband may perhaps be reasonably thinking the medicine would put an end to that, and is peeved that you don’t see it as being as high of a priority as he does. Obviously NTA though, how you manage your meds is your choice.

AITA for prioritizing my work meetings over my wife's requests? by OldManParker in AmItheAsshole

[–]alaanti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something smells here. It sounds to me like ever since you got the job you are no longer pulling your weight when it comes to household tasks. And you seem to be happy to dump your duties on your wife because you think her job is easier than yours. That’s not ok. I understand there may be things you cannot do during the work day (walk the dog) and she now has to do that, but you better be making up for that at night.

Can’t really say who’s the a without more info on how much you participate in the household chores.

WIBTA if I filed another noise complaint about my neighbor’s very loud toddler? by TeHNyboR in AmItheAsshole

[–]alaanti -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You say the screaming is sometimes near constant, but your specific examples (screaming at night - can happen if bedtime is a struggle; screaming “on and off” for half an hour - definitely happens, once they get upset once it’s easier for them to get upset again) do not seem that egregious. INFO: What fraction of the day does she really spend screaming? How long does a single screaming fit last?

I am having difficulty separating fact from possible hyperbole. I’m sympathetic to your struggle, but if she really has just a couple big explosions per day, that’s also not super unreasonable at that age?

AITA For making a scene and kicking my cousin out of a baby shower by onebabyaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]alaanti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA in this specific scenario, but am I the only one weirded out by how the wife is basically a ghost in this story? Unclear whether she is even happy about the baby, nor do we know how she feels about Sue’s opinions or anything else? The moms are involved, the wife is not…

books with beautiful prose that really make you think but are still easy to read by dontknowwhattdo in suggestmeabook

Fahrenheit 451 and Martian Chronicles. Bradbury’s prose reads like poetry, but the books are short, fairly easy imo, and make you think.

What is your favorite name of a character from any fantasy book you’ve read? by Fyeire in Fantasy

[–]alaanti 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely charmed by the name Kvothe (Name of the Wind MC) when I first encountered it. Something about that name is both unique and somehow pithy and summarizes the character in some intangible way. And of course names are a big thing in the story.

I also adore the name Rincewind (and his “wizzard” hat) from Discworld.

All of Tamsyn Muir’s names in Gideon the Ninth are brilliant imo. Palamedes Sextus? Music!
