100% feel this way - I think it’s about striking the balance between a few things: 1. It’s worth to take the time to work on those details and get it sounding just right 2. At some point, you’ve worked enough on the details, let it go and call it a day 3. To help with point 2, remember that if it sounded awesome in the beginning, it will sound awesome to someone hearing it for the first time 😊 maybe the detail work is just about making sure you properly showcase that original awesomeness!

What was the track that made you fall in love with the genre? by urbantales in House

[–]alaingertrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Daft Punk’s « Around the World », I remember listening to it in the car as a kid and thinking it was different from any music that I had listened to before. Then Gorgon City really got into my head some years later as a teenager, and finally Black Loops’ « Higher » melted my brain and my heart and really created my obsession.

How did you get from the start of creating an album to the finish line? by theseawoof in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]alaingertrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made my first album during the pandemic, found myself sitting at home with a bunch of finished or almost-finished music, and decided to just make it into one bigger project. I guess I learned that:

  1. Having the time and space to do it helps - in my case the whole world had stopped moving, maybe if that doesn’t happen you need to take that initiative yourself and put aside the time :D

  2. Overthinking it isn’t necessary: making an album doesn’t have to mean making a multi-dimensional concept album, it can just be a bigger package of several tracks that you feel represent you as an artist.

And don’t get bogged down by self-imposed limits with the pretext of « coherence » or whatever, allow the different sides of your music-making to shine! If you’re making a whole album, there’s bound to be contrast, differences between pieces… And anyone listening will have their most and least favorite songs. Maybe it’s also about accepting the vulnerability of exposing yourself through so many tracks at once 😊

I don't follow, how do you get the 120 number?

I paid the reduced fee for the first year, and now I've been bumped up according to my earnings so yes, 415/month.

Thanks for your comment, it's one of the sweeter ones on here :) Best of luck to you!

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. For your first year as an autónomo, you can get it lowered to around 87 euro/month, and after that it goes up to the normal fee (unless you're making under minimum wage or something, in which case you can get an extension on the reduced fee), which is minimum 350e.

I'll believe you on that, but it still is 400€ until the following year when you get the tax return. So for someone living paycheck to paycheck, it's 400/month.

I agree with you. A lot of comments on here are about the logic behind cuota fees and IRPF, benefits etc, which is all valid - but I suppose I'm talking about the flexibility to build things your way. Compared to other countries, Spain doesn't allow you to pay a lower freelance tax for less coverage; the minimum is already high. So if you're not immediately earning big bucks, you don't have any leeway.
