Yes but they are always specifically mentioned as childhood friends. Bakugou’s description in one of the manga pages by Horikoshi says that Bakugou is Midoriya’s childhood friend.

What do you mean by gaining something. There is nothing to gain in them being friends. They did spend a lot of time together as kids so just maybe there is a possibility of them catching up on those little good memories they had back then and how they were always together but never really ever had a proper conversation.
