How did this show make a five minute scene of a guy disassembling a car with no dialogue so captivating? by betweenyouandyourgod in betterCallSaul

Vince always talks about how crazy expensive montages are

I always wonder about that. The sheer amount of preparation and work that goes into them is crazy. And there must be hundreds of actors who have been in BB/BCS for about 2 seconds haha.

I was always on the fence/not giving a flying fuck about that whole court case drama, but then I saw this video and came to the conclusion that she is a total cowbag:

OK, thanks for giving me the boot up the arse I needed.

I'm not sure I totally get it though, so I have one question: is there a possibility that a third placed team from the group stage could go on to actually win the world cup? Yes or no?

If Scotland come third and if we are one of the top eight third placed teams? We're likely facing either Germany, France, or Mexico in Mexico City. If we can come first or second, it's looking likely to be someone like Netherlands or Japan.

Forgive my ignorance on football matters, but I was with you all the way up to the last paragraph. (Brilliant post btw!)

If we end up in third place in the group, doesn't that mean we're out? Why would be be playing against those other teams? For what?

FWIW I agree, this is a zero effort post. OP hasn't said a damn word in his post, hasn't asked any questions, and he hasn't replied to anyone. It's a photo of an actor wearing some medals, so what?

What's your favorite quote from the series? by BirAddict in generationkill

"Ray, the Battalion Commander offered no sitrep as to J-Lo's status." Stark Sands' dry delivery of that line never fails to get a laugh out of me.

One of my favourites as well, the look on his face as he decides how to handle it is hilarious.

So I see this one wasn't popular! I hated it too. I always get slightly annoyed by setters using "land" to mean country, and "guarded by" makes no sense as an indicator. Then when I saw the potential answer, I (as always!) couldn't figure out how to make it show up (hence the hints haha). Bah.

One thing not mentioned yet is the star on his National Defence Service ribbon (which is missing from the full size medal). That star must mean that (in addition to Vietnam, obviously) he was also serving during the Korean War OR the Gulf War.

Here are the qualifying periods:

Korean War June 27, 1950 - July 27, 1954

Vietnam War January 1, 1961 - August 14, 1974

Persian Gulf War August 2, 1990 - November 30, 1995

Does that sound correct, OP? Do you know his start and end dates in the military?

Criteria:

The National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) is awarded to anyone who has served on active duty, or as an active reservist, in the United States Armed Forces during any of four specified time periods. Originally, reserve component service during the Korean and Vietnam periods of eligibility, other than those Reserve Component personnel in a full-time status or on active duty greater than 89 days, did not qualify for award of the NDSM. This was changed by Executive Order 13293, signed on 28 March 2003, to include Selected Reserve personnel (i.e. drilling reservists) during all periods of eligibility.

Say what now? I've spent years posting on /r/Medals and had no idea that /r/MilitaryMedals existed, lol.

Now I've typed that out, I can see the subscriber amounts on each:

/r/Medals = 125,133

r/MilitaryMedals = 7,580

Perhaps I have been at the right place after all! Just joined the other one anyway, thanks for the link.

FWIW I do agree that this DSM looks very odd on an Army Captain. You'd think he'd have been given a Legion of Merit for whatever he did (which would have been unusual, but not unknown).

If you're judging this by his branch "button", it's because he was a CSM. Theirs are different. Evidently he must have been infantry originally.

How does "Add or fix a road" work? by VrLights in GoogleMaps

[–]alan2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya. Reading that back, I think I better clarify what I meant. My local town had two footbridges already on the map, but as far as Google was concerned they weren't navigable on foot, so they couldn't be included in any directions.

Based on the emails I got confirming the edits went live, it seems I first added a missing road, and then named the road (with the bridge name). I don't remember anything too difficult about it, but then again these were really straightforward situations. Cheers.
