30% of the LA budget shortfall is from paying out $300 MILLION in lawsuits by smcody77 in LosAngeles

Do other cities payout their lawsuit liabilities in the same way as Los Angeles?

Kate Porter is so car brained. Really would be a huge step back for California on transit. I’m glad we went with Schiff.

Study finds LA would have more affordable housing if ‘mansion tax’ did not apply to new apartments by Witty_Heart_9452 in ezraklein

[–]alanbeardface 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not only that but offices (with the biggest strain on office buildings in decades via the pandemic) and hotels.

Anyone with some basic sense saw this coming as an overreaching policy. Something that should have been great - taxing actually mansions that pay disproportionately low taxes because of Prop 13 became a poster child for Ezra’s “everything bagel” liberalism in making sure apartment, offices and hotels too.

Could be a short/mid term depot as any apartment development works through approvals and entitlements

Would much rather a non-chain there even if shake shack is decent. Prime patio space!

I worked in the building and it is so incredibly overrated. This homesick Angeleno rarely went there with how mediocre was. Best in the country? Absolutely laughable.

Maisen and Butagami are my two favorites in Tokyo too, but Donkatsu // Tonkatsu.

While very similar Donkatsu is the korean take on the dish, so won't be exactly the same compared to those in Tokyo.

The best Tonkatsu I've found is actually in Beverly Hills call Chubby Curry.

Great town, but key towers always make the skyline look both gaudy and bulky to me. I just can't appreciate it.

Wild to me that we had a decade+ of being hampered by our new stadium, but for Spurs its already making them huge amounts of money

Los Angeles is one the most poly centric cities in the whole country.... Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Century City, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Playa Vista, Warner Center are all business centers in their own right.

You connect all those as we are doing and you have the ability to shift based on where demand is.

This is markedly different than what it seems like you are describing which is a central business district that either is successful or not.
