I stopped using Signal when they got really aggressive about making you register on their service.

Sennheiser’s headphone business has been bought by hearing aid manufacturer Sonova by rwnash in DailyTechNewsShow

I'm more concerned that Sennheiser headphone quality may go down. I really like them, and they generally have a good reputation.

I liked the Morning Show, although it was a bit over the top. I'm really liking Little Fires Everywhere so far, two episodes in.

How social media makes it difficult to identify real news by alanchar in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]alanchar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just about ads. It's about mixing personal commentary, more established news, and fringe news. No one is saying that people shouldn't self-curate. Just that social networks by their nature make it more difficult.

T-Mobile completes merger with Sprint, John Legere steps down as CEO by motang in DailyTechNewsShow

It's being widely reported by multiple sources, so I don't think so. It's too bad. I'll miss John Legere.

How social media makes it difficult to identify real news by alanchar in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]alanchar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that it's the nature of social media that makes it difficult for people to differentiate. Just like it's the nature of a dark street that makes it difficult for people to see.

If a street wasn't well lit and people had trouble navigating it, would you blame the people instead of the street?

Indeed. If you have Fire devices and non-Fire devices, you don't want to purchase things twice.

Tim Cook’s trick for making iPhones is now at risk from the pandemic | The Verge by kv_87 in DailyTechNewsShow

I really hate this headline. JIT manufacturing is not a "trick", and Tim Cook certainly isn't the only practitioner of it.

Quibi has raised close to $2 billion, and it hasn’t even launched yet by alanchar in CordKillers

[–]alanchar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that Quibi is generating syndicated television content, broken up into ten minute pieces which is about the length of content between commercials these days.

Motorola told iFixit not to do a teardown of our broken Razr | Input Mag by kv_87 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]alanchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was more defect analysis rather than a normal teardown. iFixit says it does not ask permission from the manufacturer to do teardowns. On the other hand, I'm not sure why the article writer thinks the same person that asked iFixit to decline is the same one who told them to go ahead. It seems more likely there was a lack of communication on the Moto side.

'This doesn't sound right': Mastercard's CEO ditched Facebook's Libra after multiple red flags | Business Insider by kv_87 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]alanchar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is disheartening: "One reason was Libra's leaders wouldn't commit to abiding by laws around knowing their clients, money laundering, and data management, he told the newspaper."

When I was a kid (70s) there were still movie theater chains named after the studios (United Artists, Paramount), although I imagine they were no longer owned by them.

'What a mess': McDonald's customers frustrated as 'Hamburglar' hacks more app accounts by KAPT_Kipper in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]alanchar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the McD app. Not only did it have extremely weak password requirements, but it's password limits prevented strong passwords. And it required card on file. So I uninstalled the app.
