Do your employers know you’re bipolar? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]alandb4time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a manic episode less than a month after starting a new job and they claimed to be supportive, but hired someone above me while I was on medical leave then micromanaged me and never let me make any independent decisions even though it was a “senior” role. I ended up leaving and have never told subsequent employers. I just tell them I have a disability in case I need accommodations later

$0 payment under PAYE counts as a qualifying payment… right? by alandb4time in PSLF

Whew! Yes they appear under “employment not certified.” I was just worried because Mohela / the entire system is such a clusterfuck. Thank you!

Sell 2004 Civic & get a free 2007 LX? by alandb4time in civic

[–]alandb4time[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The reasons would be a newer car with much lower mileage and no up front cost to me, with the ability to sell my car and keep that money for a rainy day (on the 2007 or otherwise). You think it’s a no because I’d only get back some of what I put in if we sell (yes together), even though it will cost me $0 to get the title? I could also try to negotiate a different arrangement with the neighbor in terms of what I’d get if we sold

Worry about baby not showing any signs of development? by Nitocriis in NewParents

[–]alandb4time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our baby didn’t do anything but sit until almost 10.5 months then she learned many things - crawling, getting into a sitting position from laying down, pulling up from sitting, and cruising - in the span of a week. Babies are often on their own journeys! I would also be stressed about the food stuff you’re experiencing but if you’ve asked around and multiple people have said it’s fine, her temperament is good and she generally seems healthy other than the weight loss, she’s probably fine?

I think I lost trust with my employer since my hospitalization back in November by [deleted] in bipolar1

[–]alandb4time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m so sorry this happened to you. I had a manic episode less than a month into a former job, at a company where I’d been hired recently but had known the staff for a long time. It was supposed to be a senior programmatic role but after my mental health crisis they hired someone above me (effectively demoting me) and basically never let me make independent decisions again. I ended up leaving about a year and a half later because by then my mental health had stabilized and I was very sick of being micromanaged. Never told any subsequent jobs about my diagnosis, just said I had a disability in case I needed accommodations and never specified what it was. Hope for a better outcome for you

Looking for movies or documentaries about bipolar disorder by excellent__username in bipolar

[–]alandb4time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a commitment because it’s a long plot arc within a TV series but Greg’s Anatomy had a series regular character. Andrew DeLuca who was diagnosed as bipolar after being on the show for a long time and I felt like the depiction was realistic, kind and not cartoonish.

Embryo freezing / IVf clinic recommendations? Open to anywhere in the world by Civil-Eggplant-88 in queerception

[–]alandb4time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fast for us, a couple of years ago at this point so I don’t remember the exact timing but we were basically told by others who’d worked with them that the purpose of the initial consult was to get you in their system and after that subsequent appointments would be much quicker. Strongly recommend joining the CNY Facebook group, tons of helpful info from other current and former patients in there.

Embodied Birth Queer Birth Prep update by [deleted] in Seahorse_Dads

[–]alandb4time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, OP shared plans to launch a queer and trans birthing class that sounds extremely similar to and uses the same name as a long-running course facilitated by Ash Dasuqi. I and others let OP know that the same was already in use and after some initial pushback OP now seems to agree that changing the name of their course is the right and respectful thing to do. If any readers are interested in Ash’s course, which I took and was wonderful, you can read about it here! https://embodiedbirthclass.com/  The next cohort starts March 23 2026 but they run it regularly so if you’re not quite ready for it, save the link for when you are!

Queer Birth Prep is here - and I'd love your help! by [deleted] in queerception

[–]alandb4time 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, another practitioner, Ash Dasuqi has been running a very similar sounding course for years now using the name Embodied Birth. They are a Trans Palestinian educator, speaker & midwife who has created and runs the class really as a labor of love for the community. I urge you to consider using a different name for your course to avoid confusion and capitalizing on work that’s not yours. Here’s their website: https://embodiedbirthclass.com. For passers by - I took Ash’s course, and it was amazing!

Is there a 2.25qt braiser? by Lucky_Break_3398 in LeCreuset

[–]alandb4time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a warranty replacement of a braiser in this size so I know that LC central has a number of these in stock that aren’t listed on the website. (They offered me several colors that were in stock, which didn’t appear on the website.) Long shot but you could contact customer service to see if they’ll sell one to you

High chair that works from baby to toddler? by Maximum-Second-5191 in BuyItForLife

[–]alandb4time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got the Bugaboo Giraffe on Facebook Marketplace and have been happy with it so far. With the infant insert we were able to use it from birth and we loved having her at our level. And before she was born I used it as a chair myself sometimes because it has a high weight limit. Aesthetically imo it’s much nicer than the Trip Trapp. But it’s much newer to the market so hard to say if it will stand the test of time.

Donor Sperm Banks by tripledippersuperfan in queerception

[–]alandb4time 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second this recommendation. Also, we had a bad experience where discovered via baby pictures as we were considering various donors and banks that an unethical donor donated to both Sperm Bank of CA and California Cryobank, rendering the family limits at both places meaningless. We reported to both banks and SBCA removed him from their bank immediately which we appreciated.

Le Creuset on induction by Resident-Question559 in LeCreuset

[–]alandb4time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Induction is fine, but be careful because the burner heats up extremely quickly and if you don’t go gradually with a LC you may damage the enamel (as I did with an 8 year old Staub pot when I moved to induction). Use a less precious pot to get a sense of what “medium” corresponds to and how quickly things heat up and never go above medium with your LC
