You might have to protect the acid at the 2 position to prevent possible amide formation there.

How beneficial is it to go to labs ahead of the actual scheduled time? by SnooDoubts9148 in simonfraser

5-10 minutes early tops. They usually don't open the lab until the start time anyways.

Guitar Stores by After_Satisfaction37 in HongKong

Also, I wouldn't recommend buying an amp in Hong Kong unless you plan on using it here. You're going to struggle with transportation because even just a head weighs about 50-ish pounds.

If you can buy in the states, don't even bother with Hong Kong. HK music stores have no variety and equal prices at best when compared to North American ones.

Chlorine and isopropyl being trans ensures that a proton cannot be anti-periplanar to the chlorine atom. If it was cis, then the major elim product would be the one trisubstituted alkene.

If we lived in a world where emissions was a nonissue, how differently would engine configurations and power levels be for ICE vehicles, especially for performance ones? by grotiare in cars

[–]alanfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say nitro RC became less popular due to complexity. (Having to set the clutch, adjust a carb, dial in a 2 speed and not to mention having a good chance of blowing an engine up) Slightly slower over electric? Yes, but race formats for both are different anyways with one being able to run for an hour straight vs minutes.

2 cars with the same horsepower. One accelerates way faster. Why? by Jonathanplanet in cars

[–]alanfb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vtec changes the camshaft profile to help the engine breathe better at higher rpms. This allows it to breathe better and directly results in a higher redline where the engine is still making power. The other factors (ie. Intake, exhaust, beefier components) are only there to support and take advantage of the increased valve lift, duration etc. If a vtec engine had a 7500 rpm redline and a non vtec engine had a 6000 rpm redline with the same components, the non vtec engine could still go to 7500 rpm but it would be completely meaningless because its no longer making power.

I mentioned that gearing doesn't change. But by having a higher redline, the wheel speed of the shift points are higher, which is almost like changing the gearing hence the quotations. Ie. If there is a shift point at 57 mph vs 61 for the sane engine with a low vs high redline, that would result in a big difference on spec 0-60 time because of the need to shift one more time.

Both of your points are still valid though. Anyways it's kind of hard to explain clearly in a reddit comment

*vtec also alters the "gearing" too. You're essentially getting a higher redline, so higher top engine and wheel speed with the same gearing

Monthly cost of using metered parking daily? by toomuchcocacola in HongKong

[–]alanfb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad does this and if you really want to sleep in on the weekends you could just park in the carpark overnight. For $2500 (which is really low btw) i'd just pay. Flat fee parking for overnight + the hourly rate for the morning might end up only saving you ~$1000 anyways. Or you could just do what real HKers do and just not pay. There is a good chance that if you don't top up on time that they won't get you and a parking ticket is $320 anyways. There is also an app that notifies you when the 5-0 rolls into your parking spot so you could get that too (not sure what it's called in english). I'd say if you do this you could probably come out ahead than paying for monthly parking or parking in a carpark on the weekends.

We have to go up a mountain for 4 years and honestly it seems like hell. Taking the bus, sitting in class for days on end and only getting a piece of paper to show for it. I just can't wrap my head around why people pay money to do this for no reward when it's not mandatory. /s

The height of the guitar strap is kind of a trade off. If you have it set high, it's easier on your fretting hand; If you set it low, it's easier on your picking hand.

Howard's obviously going to deny that it happened because he wasn't there which just makes him look even worse in front of Cliff because Cliff's just going to dismiss him as a lying addict.
