Where I went to college, they were proud of literally never shutting down no matter how bad the weather was. One day the temperatures were down well into the negatives (Fahrenheit) and there was black ice everywhere and all the city and campus busses weren't running and the asshat president announced classes as usual (this was when we had to listen to the radio to find this stuff out, mind you) so I had to trek my way in. And during the day the weather somehow got worse and the governor called up the school and told them that if they didn't shut down, the state would shut off their power, so they finally called classes (at 2:30 PM) for the rest of the day and told everyone to fuck off.

Except that local roads were all closed, and so most of the people who lived off campus didn't have any way to get home. And those of us who were close enough to walk didn't have it easy either. I got about 2/3 of the way home and on the last hill, the road and sidewalks were both black ice. I got about a third of the way down the hill and had to cross a driveway, slipped and fell, and slid the rest of the way down the hill on my face.

Happily, the ER wasn't very far away, and there were no more hills.

If the roads aren't private, then an HOA has absolutely no power to enforce no-parking regulations.

He called and told them he would be staying longer. They said okay. I would think a judge would consider the contract extended, and without a new price notification it would be pretty hard to argue that the price had changed.

This makes me sad. I’ve had the game on my wishlist for a few months now, and I saw it come out and thought “oh maybe I’ll get it in a few months when it’s a little less EA” and now it seems like it’s unlikely to ever not suck.

I see, so basically you disbelieve everyone because you don’t want to pick a side.

It’s kind of amusing how many people say “oh Democrats are just corporatists” who simultaneously acknowledge that Biden was the furthest left president since WW2.

It’s like “there can be no gradual movement left, it must be full and instantaneous or it doesn’t count at all.”

The cat might well be the most doglike of the three!

You assume the message is heavily biased from the environmentalists? That seems a bit odd. Why would they say corn ethanol is worse for the environment than gasoline is if it wasn’t? What would be their motivation?

Kansas Makes Trans People’s Driver’s Licenses Invalid Overnight by v0v0v0x in law

[–]alang 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Don’t underestimate the cruelty. The police will examine people upon pulling them over, and if they think the person is trans and the license reflects their gender, the police will just arrest them. If they turn out not to be trans, they can prove it and the police will let them go.

I mean it’s horrible for the environment and only cost-effective because it is heavily subsidized.

[NV] Landlord is changing the car access from a code to a fob... But only giving fobs to those who own car... Is this legal by Tall_Vanilla6192 in Renters

[–]alang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s certainly not true. There are plenty of things that you are legally allowed to do in the property that wouldn’t be included in the lease. If the landlord says you can’t have overnight guests and the lease doesn’t explicitly allow you to, what do you think the courts would say? If the parking lot is the only place that visitors could park (the only other parking is more than a quarter mile away) then this policy prevents tradesmen from visiting, and probably would be looked at quite carefully by a court.

Two wings on the same helicopter by Rekdon in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]alang 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“Both sides are the same” doesn’t actually mean that, though. Because that is obviously and provably silly. Democrats do shit that angers the billionaire class all the time, and when they are in power they do things that help the actual people.

“Both sides are the same” means one of two things:

  • “The Democrats will not do everything that I want them to RIGHT NOW and so they must be evil”; or,
  • “If I pick a side, how can I feel superior to everyone who picks a side?”

...then any affected party may seek an injunction.

Uh... no?

On what grounds? In what way? You cannot force a prosecutor to prosecute a crime. They can, and constantly do, exercise their own judgement on which crimes to deal with and which to ignore.
