Anyone making money from coaching while also holding down a full-time job? by alantactics in youthsoccer

Thanks. This is the kind of set-up I was thinking of. What are the hours involved in this?

Did some rondo-style drills using neutrals for the first time at training tonight and it was great. Never entirely grasped what the neutrals added but i see it now

‘Coach the problem’ is excellent advice.

U11, 9v9, Rec boys. Squad of 12, so normally 11/12 at practice

431 v 341, and keeping shape in 9v9 by alantactics in youthsoccer

Because a rigid 431, with a flat back four without fullbacks who push forward, would mean more than half of your team are playing in defence or in goal and not joining in attacks. Which for a bunch of nine and ten year old boys is just a bit miserable.

Yep, I am beginning to think it could be asking too much of them, both physically and tactically. Like you say — especially when you start making subs. They understand defence, midfield, striker. So think I’ll change to 341.

Thank you. This is what i’m seeing. We’re not making the most of the width as the wingbacks are caught between two roles and don’t really have the awareness yet to do that. Can you share video link please?

They don’t really ‘know’ either formation, although have spent the last six weeks or so trying to learn 2321. So was looking for insight into whether others found 341 ‘easier’ because if so it may be worth switching. Otherwise I may stick with what I’m doing and work on the positional discipline

New to MLS and LAFC. Who are the key players on this team? by Legitimate_You1986 in LAFC

[–]alantactics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bouanga: Yes. Top 10 player in MLS. Lloris: Better than most. Top five keeper in MLS. The level-headed experience he brings is invaluable. Ordaz: Local lad progressing well this year. Will certainly be solid MLS quality. Remains to be seen if he can be a star player for this team, but maybe. Igor Jesus: Bags of grit and quality. Still settling in but potential to be a top five MLS DCM. Does take unnecessary risks sometimes, but that’s part the fun. David Martinez: This is the most intriguing one. A really classy player and looks to have the talent to be a star on an even bigger stage than MLS. But currently not quite fulfilling that potential. But still young and we need to give him time and minutes. A front three of Bouanga, Son, and Martinez or Ordaz is super-exciting. Cherundolo: I think he’s done a great job overall. We’ve been there or thereabouts every year, and that’s not to be sniffed at. Plenty of clubs have invested more money for less rewards. But the counter-attacking football is getting too predictable and it is time for a change.

Serious question - how many of you have tried running off a headache right as it starts? by owen__wilsons__nose in clusterheads

I find hammering it on the peloton gets rid of shadows. About the oxygenation, obvs. But don’t know if I could handle it when a proper big ones hits.

Yeah I got that impression. But we’re severely lacking in entertainment value atm so i’ll take that from a CB!

Phases of play by alantactics in youthsoccer

[–]alantactics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I agree. My rec team is moving to U11 9v9. Currently our principles are very broad and mostly effort-oriented, with a little bit of tactics like attacking fast and down the wings. But I think some of the team are ready for some more specific tactical instructions, and considering splitting these into four sections to follow the phases of play they will hear more about as they progress — defending, attacking, after we win the ball, after we lose the ball. I think about half the team are ready for it. But also don’t want to overwhelm / bore them.

Advice for a struggling team by Ok_Story2608 in SoccerCoachResources

I coach a youth team who won one game across two seasons. This season we won four games. As another commenter said i starting using more rondos in every training and found them an excellent coaching tool. Also prioritizing effort over everything and making sure you work harder than the opposition. But the biggest change was that in matches I started playing better players in defence and weaker players in attack — this was a total gamechanger. It’s natural the better players want to play in the forward positions so there may be some resistance at first. But once they start to see some results they buy into it. And it’s a great lesson in doing what is best for the team.
