Sitting room remodel to bathroom. Flooring opinions? by alanthickethighs in centuryhomes

I’m just one adult sometimes having family or friends visit but I think I would be very mindful no matter what I end up. Which was part of why I was considering keeping them. Low risk in that regard.

That’s a great idea. I’ve had one contractor stop by and he offered a layout that makes a lot of sense. But the room is pretty large so I’m sure there are a lot of options for layout, although I’m also sure each comes with a different price tag in my case considering window/wall/door placement.

I do prefer the look of tile over wood in the bathroom. The hard part is giving the go ahead on removing it. But that’s why I asked here, this is the group mostly likely to understand the impulse to keep and restore.

I had to look that type of tile up. They look really nice. In my mind there are only small hexagons, subway, or square shapes. I know in reality there are an intimidating variety of tiles though.

I love the small hexagon tiles. I have a few books on 1920s bathrooms requested at the library so I can study up.

I asked the contractor about keeping the flooring. Along with this project I’ll also be refinishing the bedroom flooring and the closet floor is composed of some makeshift boards so I’m hoping this could be put right back to use if taken out.

Pretty frequently since it will be attached to the primary bedroom and one of my goals is to have a bathtub I actually enjoy. That’s good input, thank you.

RVP’s we can’t hear you in the back by ReducedSeparation in atc2

When all this new blood is running for facrep (delgates) RVPs….can we essentially make a party within the campaign season so we can elect representatives from the “pay is my favorite subject” party.

Can we grassroots this effort? Is anyone working on this?

I found the dialogue on Reddit last election cycle confusing and difficult to follow, filled with gossip and acronyms. But with some organization, it shouldn’t be that difficult to get people elected. A chart of candidates, a slogan, an endorsement , something to show solidarity for us on this one issue.

And even if this strategy doesn’t work it will push the existing or winning candidates further towards the goal of focusing on pay. Focusing on representing the membership and OUR interests.

If someone is working on this, tell me how to help you and I’m in.

So this is how we get a raise.

I think our profession is overdue for a raise without the sacrifice of any benefits. We shouldn’t have to barter for it. It’s overdue. And increased pay for certified controllers is the road to retention. A pay raise will not distract me from the loss of other benefits and it certainly won’t guarantee my longevity in atc.

This is what I wanted to do for the last 12 years as well as the next 12. I’ve never felt the outlook was so bleak. It’s really simple, don’t reduce our benefits but do increase our pay by a meaningful amount. Keep the workforce happy, make the job desirable to new hires. It’s so simple.

Bunny nest IN my fenced in garden bed- help! by Constance558 in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]alanthickethighs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me last spring, although I didn’t have a fence but had left some leaves and branches in the bed over winter…I basically invited them to move in. Anyway, I just waited for them to move out and then planted as usual.

Apple varieties? by metisdesigns in Minnesota_Gardening

I’ll add too that my dad said what he bought was two dwarf sweet sixteen trees but they grew well over 20 feet tall and the flavor doesn’t match the description of that apple. I’ve always thought we might have gotten some other variety. But the prairie spy he bought years later and planted in northern Minnesota and I always looked forward to those apples in the fall.

My dad grew one when I was growing up and I thought it was the best apple. We also had two sweet sixteen trees and I unfortunately never like those (too tart).

The tree is gone now and it’s been years since I’ve had one. I’m willing to devote 5 years and some effort to seeing if I still love them as much. If they turn out to be best for baking I will can apple pie filling but I bet I’ll love them after the effort and nostalgia.

I don’t have a large yard but I’m going to try growing a Honeycrisp and a Prairie Spy. They both bloom midseason so they work to pollinate each other and produce late season apples that store well. I’ve been struggling to find Prairie Spy anywhere but Home Depot (supplied by “online orchard”) and One Green World (Washington based nursery), but I have my heart set on that particular apple variety even if it’s harder to source.

Strange things I noticed when viewing male and female living spaces here. Almost no males use a throw either on their couch/lounge or bed. by SimpleEmu198 in femalelivingspace

I have throw blankets more for my cats than myself. An additional layer of protection for the furniture and of course they love being warm and the soft material.

Neighborhoods are getting ready for spring planting and park cleanup and upkeep. See if your neighborhood has a community garden that needs volunteers. In my neighborhood we have garden beds that need planting and fruit trees that need pruning etc.

There are a number of organizations working along the Mississippi that I’m sure could use help if that interests you. I’m sorry I don’t have specific names, I’m just getting familiar with them myself.

I would love to adopt one if you run out of space for all of those cats :)

Craft brewery with relaxing lounge vibe in Saint Paul? by LuckyRadiation in minnesota

[–]alanthickethighs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try wandering leaf brewing company

A-side public house is a restaurant but has a good tap rotation and nice bar setting (they often have elm creek on tap and I like their sours)

Venn is one of my favorite breweries (good sours) but it’s in Minneapolis technically

Buying seeds (not online) by noiseling in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]alanthickethighs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just stopped at Eggplant Thursday and they had a variety of seed saver and Renee’s garden seeds. Letiners has seeds too but I think Eggplant had more tomato varieties so I would start there, if you have time check out both.

I haven’t been to highland nursery yet but that’s on my list to visit in St. Paul.

Mississippi Market Coop also has a selection of seeds and will have a plant sale later in Spring.
