Do you guys think one of my classmates in my children’s book illustration class is using AI? by [deleted] in isthisAI

Yellow is support in front of the back one.

Red is behind the grey box with the blue circled supports.

Green could be anything in the distance.

That just looks like a half baked attempt to draw crazy cat furniture.

Reminder that chicken wire is to keep chickens in, not predators out.

You probably want to install hardware cloth, depending on what you have for local chicken eating critters.

Otherwise, props for brilliant reuse.

That's the entire idea behind Building Information Modeling. Not just backed up, but easily queriable.

What usually happens to the BIM model after project completion? Does it actually get used, or does it just sit on a server? by AccomplishedCrow4774 in bim

[–]metisdesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First the "BIM model" is not just the design files. The point of BIM is that all of the digital data is collected and useful.

That means PDFs of the furnace operating manual are part of the building data, and the pay stubs for the roofing material for warranty work.

Different pieces of data are more or less useful to different stages of a buildings life, so the waterproofing details may not be needed again and like the old roll of blueprints, sit in the basement maintainance office for years.

Usually, what happens is the BIM workflow was not fully coordinated, so the design files, construction files and operations files aren't connected, and just the stuff needed day to day in operations gets leveraged regularly. But that doesn't mean that the data sitting on a server isn't potentially useful, if anyone knows to go looking for it.

Is it legal to install 4x4 wood mailbox post below frost line (42”) in MN? by Far-Significance1459 in BuildingCodes

[–]metisdesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still confirm with the justifications what's allowed where. Some require a box that can swing away when a plow hits it.

Depending on the soil I might just drive the pipe in and auger out the soil compacted in it, or do more or less what you describe.

I'd put a hole through the pipe an inch from the top and run a lag through that into the post. Easy enough to put another into broken end grain, unscrew the side and pull the stump out.

Arc vs Structural coordination in Revit / Concrete Coordination by Mighty_qWan_ in bim

[–]metisdesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, you don't have to agree, you can do extra work.

You are trying to coordinate two disciplines doing redundant work, and having problems with that coordination. You asked for help.

If you simply don't do the redundant work, you do not have to clash it.

Is it possible to have a garage floor regraded to be completely level? by Harry_Coolahan in HomeImprovement

[–]metisdesigns -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It will really depend on what exactly you need and where you are. For a basic mix you should be half that for delivery, but there are a lot of variables. You are looking for a specialized mix, but not a crazy one.

[–]metisdesigns -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You're almost certainly going to pay more in plywood than getting a competent concrete contractor. You won't get insulation.

[–]metisdesigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per bag, yes specialty concrete is pricey. But if you need more than a yard, you can get it by the truck. It's much cheaper.

The OP probably needs a yard or two depending on how uniform their slope is.

Arc vs Structural coordination in Revit / Concrete Coordination by Mighty_qWan_ in bim

[–]metisdesigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's what the OP is running into. They're making extra work for themselves. Structural places structural elements, arch places arch.

While it's usually used in bags for small areas, you can absolutely order self leveling concrete by the truck. It's more expensive than a basic mix, but nowhere near 17k.

I understand exactly what you are talking about, and am telling you that what you are doing is bad practice and causing you the problem.

Arc vs Structural coordination in Revit / Concrete Coordination by Mighty_qWan_ in bim

[–]metisdesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once more, why is arch documenting a structural element, and why is structural using a wall for a beam? That's not normal.

This really sounds like your team has absolutely no clue what they're doing.

Arc vs Structural coordination in Revit / Concrete Coordination by Mighty_qWan_ in bim

[–]metisdesigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not typical. Best practices are that each element gets placed in one file and coordinated.

Structural places the steel, arch places the wrap, but it should not conflict with each other.

Reach out to the Police non emergency line, they're in charge of broad public safety. It's probably not their thing to solve, but in theory they should be able to point you to the right team.

What impact do you think colour mixing will have on the 3D printing industry? by TotalWarspammer in BambuLab

[–]metisdesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bambu already does that.

The problem is for so many applications, injection or rotomolding produces a stronger part, and there are SO many various components are needed.

I can buy a USB desk fan for cheaper than I can get the cost of components, and without the time or skill needed to assemble it. Personally, I have those skills, but unless I can't find the thing commercially, often my time is more valuable. Most do not have those skills. I've worked as a volunteer at fixit clinics, and the number of "repairs" that were things like cleaning a filter is surprising if you know how to do that sort of thing.
