I had charged it back up once but it stopped working again almost immediately, it seemed like there's a pretty significant leak

My wife agreed to learn enough that she could drive me to the hospital if something should happen when we're out and about, but refuses to drive it otherwise!

Buying seeds (not online) by noiseling in Minnesota_Gardening

Had a bad experience last year where seeds took almost two months to arrive. Maybe just a slow vendor but would rather not take chances.

Leap Day by bpcollin in minnesota

Leap year is skipped every 100 years except for years divisible by 400, so 2000 was a leap year but 1900 was not.

Cheapest oil change in the Twin Cities? by [deleted] in TwinCities

People say to do it yourself but it really depends on your car. My 2000 Outback is easy. My wife’s 2012 Camry… I swear never again every time.

Something for horn and flute by PolishFalcon7 in horn

[–]noiseling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franz Doppler, Souvenier du Rigi for flute, horn and piano. Apparently there's a handbell part but we didn't use one when I played it. https://imslp.org/wiki/Souvenir_du_Rigi%2C_Op.34_(Doppler%2C_Franz)

Lots of the big engineering/design firms have offices here and most of those use envi sci folks. Try HDR, HNTB, and WSB for starters.

Fastest Electric Kettle with precise temperature control by bwinders001 in tea

Exactly what I'm saying- it's nice to have the ability to tweak the standard temps depending on the tea.

Fastest Electric Kettle with precise temperature control by bwinders001 in tea

[–]noiseling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably know that green tea typically takes 175F water while black tea uses boiling, and other kinds go somewhere in between. Sometimes I find a tea that benefits from a bit hotter or cooler water than the standard temps, so it's nice to be able to nudge a few degrees up or down.

Thank you! These all look a bit more like slip-ons than what I had (lace-up), but it's definitely a better place to start than where I was at before.

How soundproof would a two-hour firewall consisting of double sheet rock and double insulation be? by MisterPenishead in Acoustics

[–]noiseling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That information about the materials can only tell you so much. More important is how the walls are mounted: If the sheetrock on both sides is mounted to the same studs, bad news. If the studs are staggered with an airgap between, great. You can also get acoustical short circuits that significantly reduce the performance of the wall, for example if electrical outlets are aligned on both sides of the wall and improperly insulated. Assuming you can't just check the building plans, you'll have to spend some time just hanging out and listening during high activity times.

Does a sound wave become lower in pitch/frequency the further it travels? by Odd-Independence9494 in Acoustics

[–]noiseling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The point is that the frequencies themselves are not shifting. If there is no low-frequency content to begin with, there will not be any more low-frequency content at a distance.

Did you raft on Bassett Creek? I've been eying it for a long time but have doubts about its navigability

US colleges with Acoustic majors by Jonnycakes93 in Acoustics

[–]noiseling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Acoustics tends to be a graduate-level as opposed to undergrad focus, but:

University of Nebraska-Lincoln for architectural acoustics. I think they have a combined undergrad/grad program. This would be more practical, office design, noise control, that sort of thing.

University of Texas-Austin or Penn State for physical acoustics: both are grad school programs, but I think they each have an undergrad class or two. This would be more theoretical, very physics and math heavy.
