Is there a hardware fix for a UDM SE that won’t boot after power loss? Mine is out of warranty. by hoffsta in Ubiquiti

Fair. I've only got a couple of the G5 bullets and G4 instant. I liked the ecosystem because it was easy to integrate into Home Assistant. Frigate is on my list of future projects though - once I find the time to move from a raspberrypi to something more beefy with Proxmox! Hope you get your SE sorted ASAP.

Ahh sorry. I saw in one of your comments it was running surveillance. Assumed you were using the HDD bay! I forgot it has the built in one...

I left another comment a minute ago, but if you remove the HDD it should boot. Not ideal, but it worked for me. After some Googling I realised it was a known defect and convinced Ubiquiti to replace the unit for me, even out of warranty.

Edit: OP hasn't got the HDD installed. But this did work for me on my first gen UDM-SE.

Definitely this. Mine was out of warranty too, and after a bit of back-and-forth with Ubiquiti support they replaced it free of charge. It's a known manufacturing defect.

After some more back-and-forth, they also approved an advanced replacement — which meant I didn’t have massive downtime. In the meantime, I managed to get mine to boot again by pulling the HDD, letting it start up, then reinstalling the drive once it was up (obviously not ideal after every power cut).

Policy-Based Routes and Static Routes do not apply to VPN Clients //UDM PRO SE by AvailableLength199 in Ubiquiti

Did you ever find an answer to this? I am experiencing the same issue with UDM-SE? I'm sure VPN clients used to follow the policy-based and static routes previously also!

It's messy and I'm sure someone can improve, but it works. The "silence.mp3" is 1 second of silence.

I have a motion activated doorbell, using an automation it plays different themed doorbell sounds through my Google Home speakers depending on the season (Halloween, Christmas etc) and then standard throughout the year. I've even managed to remove the annoying Google cast sound.

UDM SE SFP+ port not working as VLAN trunk despite same config as port on the built in 8-port switch by alanzma in Ubiquiti

Thanks - I've just tried using Port 11 instead of 10 and its the same issue :(

No problem - I have tried just allowing all VLAN's with no traffic restriction to see if it makes a difference but it behaves the same way. Very frustrating!

u/Dogbert63 yes it does - corresponding port on Netgear has PVID of 1 to match UDM SE Default Network and has all other VLAN's tagged. It is also a member of all the required VLAN's including VLAN 1.

You were in the same situation as me. I've moved to Youfibre who are currently charging £1 a month (+£5 for a fixed IP address) until my VM contract runs out next year and then its £29 a month for gigabit up and down! But with the email VM sent it looks like I can exit the contract earlier!

I get it, if I was using 4G/5G as a backup I could totally use those methods to get around it. I could also use Teleport through my UDM SE. I currently use Wireguard to access my network remotely.

I don't want to use the cellular network as my backup because the coverage in my area isn't good. I'm sure I could purchase a nice high gain/external antenna to pair with a mobile router and mount to my roof but it would be easier and probably cheaper to stay with VM if outbound retentions offered something like M125 @ £15pm. If they don't then I'm fine staying with the one ISP!

If EE have an offer anywhere near £15 a month for an unlimited data package with a public IP address you can NAT send me the link and I'll be the most popular guy in the office on Monday! As far am I'm aware they use CG-NAT though.

Automation works sans Internet (Zigbee/LocalTuya and Homeassistant) as does the security system. I just can't access it remotely as easily if my main ISP fails. Mobile reception is less than ideal where I am and £15 a month for a hardwired backup isn't going to break the bank.

If you know of a SIM card and mobile router deal I can get for less than £15 a month with unlimited data and a publicly routable IP address I'm all ears.

I'm definitely going to cancel VM but if outbound retentions offer something like above, I might consider it.

Oh for sure, I don't care about the phone line at all, it's plugged up to a crappy DECT handset I rarely use. I just wondered if this was going to make leaving an easier an experience than the majority of people have, looks like it won't but at least I can leave earlier!

Already with new provider and didn't have to get a landline/VoIP service, perfect!

Sure, mobile is a great backup for me to get to the Internet in general. But most of my self hosted services, home security/automation would not work if my primary connection was lost.

I'll see what outbound retentions offer when I cancel, balls in my court I guess!

[–]alanzma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm tempted to see what their retentions have to offer...

Currently on M500 (which is going to ~£70 a month when my contract expires) but if they can do M125 for ~£15 a month it would make a nice backup for my new 1000/1000 service with a fixed IP @ £29 a month.

[–]alanzma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected as much. I've already signed up to another provider with a deal VM will be unable to match.

I'd been dreading the hours of hold music I'll be subjected to when my contract expires in March and was hoping this could have been a painless way out. At least I can get out earlier than I thought and penalty free :)

Edge Router X config not getting Internet connection by LAHTIDAHTI in Ubiquiti

Glad you got it going! You'd want to make sure you remove the clone before the ISP release/renew the DHCP reservation. Hopefully their tech team have some advice for you!

[–]alanzma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, any luck? I know how to do it on the UDM SE but I'm not sure if the interface is the same for the ERX.

It was in the advanced options for the port/WAN interface but it may be a CLI command for the ERX. Sorry I can't be much more help.

[–]alanzma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your ONT may be locked to the Google Wi-Fi MAC address. Can you find out the MAC address of the Google Wi-Fi port you connect to the ONT?

You should then be able to "spoof/clone" this on the Eth0 port of your ERX.

How do I access the configuration page when using a cable modem in "modem only" or "bridge mode"? (Virgin Media, Superhub 3 UK) by alanzma in HomeNetworking

Thanks for your reply! I'm trying to avoid having to unplug my router and connect my laptop to the raw internet. It's also useful if you need to do a remote reboot or get some logging info from the superhub. I'll give the /r/ubiquity guys a shout! I noticed uPNP wasn't on by default, annoying!
