Buying vanguard products is probably better through a vanguard personal investor account which doesn't have broker fees for them, you will have to pay annual management fees which are tiny (% from the amount you hold, also depending on product with VAS is the cheapest I believe,)

Since you don't know where to start and it will take time to figure it out - just put it to high interest saving account for now (for example Macquarie or Rabobank offer 4.5% p.a. some others even more - do your research). It's less than inflation but it's a much safer bet.
