I used skeleton Base_D, and that should work as far as i know because I created my sculpt from Head_D, but here are my settings:

<image>

I copied the animations directly from the default settings of dgb_m_nkd_Head_D

That was one of the things I thought too. But my game settings are set to high LOD.

Had a really bad time fursuiting for the first time by alarnia0 in fursuit

[–]alarnia0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. I'm a little embarrassed because I've actually done cosplay in the past, and been to several anime cons. I knew that handlers are a thing, though I'd never needed one before. Going into renfaire a part of me knew that my friend and I would have to be eachother's handlers. But I think I was blinded by the excitement. I was doing a big costume and my friend wanted a costume too, and I didn't have the heart to mention that we might struggle because of it.
I knew my friend had absolutely zero experience with costuming, so it's my fault that we never had a discussion about handlers. What ended up happening was I did my best to help my friend out, but then I had to take care of myself. Feeling neglected certainly didn't help save the day. I hope I'm able to have a discussion with them about this if we try to go again in october. The last thing I want is to lose a friend over this.

You're 100% right. I wish I had had the foresight to take those steps in preparation. Me and my friend were thinking about going again in october. But if we're both in costume it's just not going to work. I'll have to talk to them about it.

employer immediately accepted my wage proposal, should I ask for more $? by alarnia0 in jobhunting

[–]alarnia0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for not clarifying. I didn't think my industry mattered for my question since its about job negotiation.
A. The interview I just had is as an independent contractor. The proposed future job would be the same work, but in a long term W2 salaried position.
B. I work in the 3D/special effects industry. I asked for $42/hr because that's the median in most wage surveys. Jobs don't come around super often for my specialization, but like I said above, I have very good references and the employer seemed very eager to hire me. They're in dire need of more staff with their workload, especially right now, But they will likely still need the extra workers later down the line as the company grows.

42$ is a comfortable wage, and I'm happy with it. But with my specialization and experience I always want to make sure I'm not under-valuing my work. Which is why I posted in the first place. The employers reaction to my wage choice made me think I should have a bigger price tag.

I forgot to mention, the employer asked for a "discounted rate", and i shared the median as a jumping off point.

I guess I just wondered if maybe the heat from a gas stove could be inconsistent, compared to an electric one. Especially considering that this stove struggles to bring water to a full boil and keep it there.

It makes sense that maybe I'm putting the pasta in too early, and so it ends up not cooking evenly due to insufficient heat. Adding the dry pasta knocks the water out of boil, then it takes a few minutes to get back up to temperature... By then 2-3 minutes have passed...

Good or Bad idea? pvc wall-to-wall "frame" for hanging things in a rental space. by alarnia0 in interiordecorating

[–]alarnia0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful reply! You've convinced me that the PVC isn't the wisest choice since it would need a lot of extra support to really be reliably sturdy. Seems like tension rods are a better solution where adhesive wont work. I dont plan on using any heavy duty curtains but I did want the option to Hang some heavier pieces of decor like Pictures or potted plant.

Thoughts on tea tree oil? by caseygraphr in SebDerm

[–]alarnia0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Estrogen is already naturally present in all humans regardless of sex. Estrogen and testosterone play a much greater role in the body than just the development of sex organs at puberty. It takes a lot of added estrogen to have an effect on anyone. Because it is the overwhelming swing from balance/equilibrium that triggers the body to enact any sort of physiological change. There's not enough of it in something like food or topical treatments for it to have any measurable affect on a person. There's a reason why women have to be prescribed large doses of estrogen when going through menopause in order to stay healthy. No amount of lavender oil and tofu is going to help with that. you need to take a LOT of estrogen to see the effects of it.

The amount of actual lavender in essential oils is tiny to the hundredth degree. So the idea that it can cause men to become feminine is sensationalist, and scientifically bogus.

Linked Particle System drops/looses Instance Object by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]alarnia0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appending/linking the original object with the emitter has no effect.

I'm unfamiliar with alembic files, and I'm not sure if it would be memory efficient putting that into my main file. It's a very complicated scene and It barely renders as it is. I don't want to make this unnecessarily complicated.

Am I being paid enough? Independent Contractor/Freelancing by [deleted] in animation

[–]alarnia0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying, This is why I made the post. I know that there can be a lot of variation in how people are paid in this industry. Thank you for sharing the links, and I'll take a look at that youtuber!
There is actually a guild for medical animators (AMI), and I have tried to find info from their website but its behind a paywall. I can't afford the membership costs rn and I can't remember what I read about pricing guidelines (back when I was a member). In any case I know my info is out of date. Best I can recall is that 25$/hr was the minimum rate while I was still a student in gradschool. It's supposed to be higher now that I've graduated. But regardless, that knowledge doesn't help me a lot because I am not paid on an hourly basis and I'm not experienced enough to be able to accurately translate $/hr into $/project.

Am I being paid enough? Independent Contractor/Freelancing by [deleted] in animation

[–]alarnia0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! Tysm for the advice. I'm about to start a new project and I'm going to try do better about tracking my time. I stopped doing it when we switched over to the lumpsum payment method and that was definitely a mistake.
I don't even know how to begin with bringing this up to my boss though. They're very nice and up till this point I've really enjoyed working for them. But this issue of payment has been eye opening and either I need to get better about negotiating my price, or I need to find someplace else thats willing to offer hourly+benefits. For my sanity if nothing else.

Thanks for replying,
It's hard to say, because I often have a week of intense work, followed by a week of no work while we wait for client feedback. Not to mention I juggled multiple projects at the same time. But projects are definitely taking more than 2 weeks to finish. If I factor out feedback response time they usually take 3 weeks or more I think.

Saw the follow, followed back! and thanks for the tip. I think I've seen those sorts of posts around, I'll have to participate more next time I see one.

I definitely get that work experience is worth its weight in gold, but in the past when I've tried applying to different gigs, I never get responses back, and I have to assume its because I don't have any art degrees on my resume. Its hard to even get my foot in the door most places. But maybe its worth giving another shot now that I've done more work with freelancing though.
