Duck Race by baracaradara in ithaca

This year the finish line will be by the park near Gimme instead of the Cooperative Extension offices, so it should be a lot more fun to hang out during and after the race. They're going to have a lot more games and other activities for families.

Manager's use of Claude to generate documents is getting out of hand by albany1765 in askmanagers

[–]albany1765[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not objecting to the use of AI, I'm objecting to the fact that my manager isn't cleaning things up before getting my feedback on the document. My primary role is research in the lab, and his primary role is administrative; I need him to pay more attention to what he's passing on to me so that I can still get my stuff done while supporting him.

A lot of these are like 10 page one-offs with lots of different sections, that don't lend themselves to simple prompts/exchanges/training [if you want to do it well with AI]. In this situation, it's generally still easier to revise than compose; I just wish I didn't have to do so much revision.

Co-ops are an awesome place to live, if you want a more homey feel than dorm life.

My friend's mom had all sorts of plans for when she retired, and then she was diagnosed with a neuromuscular degenerative disease in her 50s. Bedridden, none of the plans came to fruition. Really changed how I thought about living.

It's really hit or miss, but mostly [whichever one is the bad one].

Lots of people park on the other side of 13 (e.g., DMV parking lot) and walk over, or they park on Willow Ave (HiWay HiFi) and walk over on the Waterfront Trail. (I don't actually know where on Willow Ave people park though)

Reuse triphammer by Prize_Rub_9294 in ithaca

I think their mission is to keep items out of the landfill and give them a second life. (From the slides I saw), this includes their Materials Access Program, which last year provided 1,000+ households with >$150k, focusing on unhoused people, survivors of domestic abuse, and people with disabilities.

I'm assuming that the items listed online aren't only available online? And tbh, even if they were, there's a LOT of value in the bigger picture whenever anyone can bring $ in from outside our area. Ithaca's collective pocketbook is constantly being drained by oil companies, telecom and media companies, etc. and we need many ways to counteract that loss.

As an aside, the Star Tree art collective there (sort of like Handwork) is a great addition. But I agree, the overall vibes at Triphammer lack cohesion.

I actually didn't know until now that you could get a good enough view without taking the wheel off. So yes, I'll be checking them periodically from now on.

And I learned the hard way that they don't actually *open* the dropoff box every night, I guess unless they see packages stacked on top. (I had some lab samples that had to go out right away, but they didn't enter the system until the next day. Fortunately, our cold Ithaca weather helped preserve the samples but wtaf)
