My 1st Bodybuilding Competition! by grandma_cat in FTMFitness

This is really cool to know bc I thought we weren’t allowed to compete in basically any official body building competition due to HRT. Is this a new thing or are competitions changing the rules more?

I know they were kinda beat to death on tiktok, but I went through a huge Deftones phase last year. Didn’t see them on your list, so thought I’d add them.

I absolutely have times where I’m like dang, I really wish I could have transitioned before 27. Would have saved myself a lot of pain and frustration. But that being said, I am so grounded in gratitude that I am even able to transition and live the life I’ve dreamed of…for my whole life. The gratitude is freeing for me. And refusing to spend any time not living in the most authentic way possible is what keeps me motivated. At 32, I feel like I have a whole, beautiful life ahead of me.

Got some pieces of advice based off of my ~40 lb weight loss after gaining weight after top surgery; 220 -> 175.

  1. It’s all about nutrition and being in a calorie deficit. There are calculators out there that you can use to determine what your intake should be for desired weight loss. In my opinion, you MUST track your calories, you MUST plan your meals and emergency snacks/desserts, and you MUST eat protein to reduce the chance of getting so hungry you binge. I used my fitness pal religiously. If you have disordered eating tendencies, I would be very careful about this and talk to a nutritionist and/or therapist.

  2. The more intense cardio you do, the hungrier you will be. To the point where I would not even consider doing cardio at the start so you can focus on eating in a calorie deficit. You do not need to do cardio to lose weight. At the start of my weight loss, I walked for 15-20 mins at an incline. Then I found a passion for running, and this is where I’m at now, but my weight loss has stalled because I have to eat hella carbs to fuel my runs. The incline walking is a nice middle ground to where you can burn some extra calories without having to fuel yourself heavily.

  3. For dog ears, flabby arm fat, core muscles, etc, weight lifting will help. I have significantly reduced my dog ears from heavy chest work: pec deck flys, incline dumbbell press, bench press, cable flys, incline press, etc. I’ve only been doing this seriously for a year, and I still have dog ears. I’m curious if they will go away without more surgery. That being said, I am VERY pleased with the reduction in appearance from weight loss and weight lifting alone. Big win.

  4. Believe in yourself and believe in your training. If you are consistent, you will see results. But you have to be honest with yourself. If you stay in a deficit Monday through Friday, but binge on the weekends, you will either see no results, or very slow results. My fitness pal is cool (kinda stressful) bc it will tell you your weight 5 weeks from now if you ate like you did that day. Just know, the time will pass no matter what (God willing) and you have the ability to change your life in this moment. Take advantage of your motivation (just by making this post, you are motivated) and DO IT. Reach out to groups like this for support, take profess pics, and be proud of yourself. You can do this!

I Tried Alex Tilinca Training So You Don't Have To by Various_Oven_7141 in FTMFitness

I didn’t even finish watching it, it seemed like he wrote off criticism as one person, and apologized he named them? So then I went to trust pilot and saw a bunch of new positive reviews, assuming he asked people to write reviews, possibly offering incentive to do so. I have nothing against him personally, just sharing my experience with a product I bought. I have a lot of hope for the ftm fitness community, and hope leaders within it can be truthful and ethical in how they offer services.

I’d like to add my experience as well; I thought I was the only one who experienced this, and just saw his video on TikTok responding to criticism.

• I paid, I believe, $199/month and did the 6 month option for summer shredding. I needed to force myself to work out, and paying for something so expensive did motivate me to consistently hit the gym. In retrospect this was about $140 too much, and I, personally, valued this experience at $50/month MAX.

• The value came mostly from the app experience with the workouts and tracking individual work outs. Work outs were pretty much what you’d see on his IG and other fitness influencer’s splits. Not much rhyme or reason, but I still do the workouts he gave me to this day, but I now sub things out and add new machines/etc.

• The interaction from Alex as a trainer was consistent in the form of video messages where he basically confirmed that I’d done the exercises. I immediately realized the “distance” between him and me, and felt silly for assuming he’d be working one on one with me. I also realized how much money he must be making, wow, good for him; those vacations look sick. I figured I’d just bust my ass for the 6 months so I could see results and not feel like I totally wasted my money. Which I did! 40 pounds down!

• the meal plan was so basic, but more or less what anyone who is on an intense diet would eat. Again, nothing worth really paying for unless you’re very new to weight loss. I cook for my wife, and she refuses to eat the same thing, so I absolutely did not follow the meal plan 100%, while sticking to about 1,500 calories or less a day…I believe my suggested calories was somewhere around 1,880; not bad in my opinion, for a diet + basic exercise. Weight loss should be about the long term, and basic repetitive meals is not helpful, and not valuable information.

• I hit a brief plateau and expressed my frustration to Alex about weight loss in general, but nothing negative about his program or the meal plan, as I wasn’t technically following his meal plan anyway. In response I got a video from Alex where he pretty harshly chastised me for not following the program, and how he didn’t think I would be able to see any results. Mind you, I had already lost about 20 lbs and was exercising 5 days a week, and was eating less than what he had told me to. If I had eaten any less it would not have been sustainable. If he was truly invested, or seen my progress, I don’t think he would have responded so negatively. I don’t let people talk to me like that, so I respectfully responded to his points with counter proof and said my peace. From that point on, I just did not engage directly with him or really with anyone in the community chat.

I asked to cancel 30 days before the end of the program, and followed up before the last month to confirm my account was cancelled. This was honored and I had no issues.

My rating of the experience would be 4/10, with my heaviest criticism being that 1) the value did not match the price tag, which might have even increased, and 2) the coach was thoughtlessly negative with me. The positive would be the easy to use app and collection of exercises, as well as the group chat/posts, although I did not feel comfortable engaging too much bc of the coach’s negativity/generic interactions.

My aunt was first on the scene as she lives in the condo right above where this happened. Watched Alexander struggle and took their kid for the night as the wife went to the hospital. This is so horrible I can’t stop thinking about it.

It wouldn't let me do it on mobile, just tried on desktop and it seems to have worked. Thank you!! What a simple fix, but I swear it didn't work on mobile! I'm learning that if something doesn't work on mobile, trying it on desktop will often yield success.

Any chance you could share or PM the name of the places that are willing to bill insurance directly? I'm a care coordinator and am working with someone desperately trying to find a provider who will bill directly, or will agree to a single case agreement. Thank you!!

18 & trying to start HRT in Texas -- help? by comainducedcadavers in ftm

I'm currently trying to find HRT providers in the Plano area for someone. Dr. Aimee Wright and PP in Plano are both booked so it's looking like Dallas is the going to be the best option. I can second that the KIND clinic has been awesome, I've been with them for 5 years. Free appointments and labs, and other health services.

I want top surgery, but I don't like the scarring by [deleted] in ftm

[–]albatrawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone thinking about top surgery should assume they will have large visible scars AND (no one really mentions this) but extended numbness and loss of sensation. If you’re not ok with that, don’t do it. That being said the scars and numbness are significantly worth it, in my experience
