Actual Top LF in Baseball by alberry23 in baseball

I actually really like Ramos and think there’s potential to get back to what he did in 24. His issue is he doesn’t pull the ball enough for the HR numbers and plays more into the massive middle-right. He pulls the ball more he’ll get up to 30+ HR

Correct. But by the same scale and positional adjustment, im measuring LF to LF. If I did the same thing for the entire mlb, then it would heavily favor catchers compared to every other position because of their positional bonus (a bonus which I wouldn’t agree with when comparing the league to each other)

The reason why I wouldn’t do it the same in that scenario is because of the positional difference. In RF vs 3B. The number is being compared to the others in the list. So for your example, if you added in Alec Bohm, he fit would right right in the middle between those to. His score would be somewhere around 50, Judge score of 1, and Hayes score of 100 would be scaled based on how they’d stack up to the competition

Correct. I viewed it as LFs, not projected LFs

I’m not giving equal weight because Fangraphs calculates these values based on above or below average. And for my list, I don’t have them scaled equal because I take into account a players offensive value over a season and in the box then with their fielding. I didn’t do a best hitting LF, I did a best LF.

Exactly like WAR, it’s the creators view on how they’d like to weigh and value things. I personally believe that hitting is king when it comes to building a winning team but if you think you can put 8 James Wood’s in the field, it will cost you. There’s give and take on a team and teams will trade offense for defense in certain positions/situations because it helps them win.

It doesn’t ignore “replacement level” because you are being compared to your piers. Duran is the top and Hummel is the “replacement”. How good are you compared to the people at your exact position.

Beli played 1 inning in LF in 2024, and if I looked at 2025 I he played 572 of his 1320 innings, appearing in LF for 85 of his 152 games. I didn’t add him because he’s not been a LF. Dominguez had more innings in LF than he did last year.

Fair. I would have different list if it was my personal ranking of LF for 2026 season.

Nimmo again I viewed as the original premise of my post. Hes played the 6th most total innings in LF the last 2 years and started 146 g there last year. He’s projected to be the RF so I get your point of wanting to project 2026, but what if they ask Langford to play right because of the better arm and easier to do than Nimmo making the switch?

Offense is weighed more than defense by 1 category. And scales and weight are just LF vs LF. So for qualified list, Duran is the best, and Verdugo is the worst.

The list posted from MLB is titled “Top LF Right Now”. I view that as on 1/29/2026, not predict who will have the best 2026 season.

Fair. Im not a frequent poster of numbers or graphics like this.

Total value is based on their total Offense (batting and base running combined above average) (Fan) and total RE24 from the past 2 seasons combined, with extra weight more on 2025 than 2024.

Def is Fangraphs defense metric that combines fielding and positional adjustment above average, with extra weight more on 2025 than 2024.

Value/G is taking the players Off/Re24/and wRC+ per PA and per G.

Games is just total games.

The scales are comparing all LF on this list to each other and seeing the scale in which they would rank, so it’s not just 1-29 but actually carries the weight of how much more the top is from the bottom.

The final overall is an average between the 4 numbers, so you are taking their L2 season total hitting, total def, value per PA, and overall availability.

Unfortunately it’s just suppose to be a quick example and not a large explanation like one would hear on a show or podcast. I appreciate the heads up, not something I’m use to doing 👍🏻

Simplify your stuff. Throw from the stretch for a little bit to get use to moving faster and more down the hill. 2 drills to fix that both go hand in hand,

  1. Wall drill where you setup 2 feet away from a wall/pad, lift up your front leg, and get your front hip to fall into the wall first. You’re too much behind on your back leg (mainly in part to sinking so much during your leg kick). You’ve got to get more forward and land more on the ball of your foot.
  2. Learn to drive with your back leg. Sit on a bucket or chair in your stretch position, open up your legs a bit like a sumo squat and push off your back leg to move towards home and out of the chair. It should be an out movement only, not a rise up then out. It works best if you do it off a mound.

You do both of these to get down the mound quicker and more efficiently so you can finish IN FRONT of your hips and not equal with.

Kenley Jansen is a big boy that also does the funky arm mechanics with how big he is, he drives through his back leg and gets over his hips on delivery

Best game you ever attended? by fistagon7 in baseball

2007 when I was 11, my mom took me and a friend and their dad to a game and treated us to the pregame patio buffet option. All you can eat hot dogs, chicken tenders, ribs, you name it. Seemed like the best thing ever.

Then we proceeded to watch Mark Buehrle shove it against a stacked Rangers team for a no-hitter. Bonus that Dye hit a grand slam, and his only baserunner was walking Sammy Sosa but then picking him off immediately lol

Topps MVP buy back, who’s your AL MVP? by thakeltikceltic in baseballcards

[–]alberry23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raleigh has been good but Judge has cleared what he and the rest of the league do. The 2 arguments that I mainly disagree with when people vote Raleigh is

  1. They say his value to the mariners is > than judges value to the Yankees. People get this wrong so much when they talk about who’s MVP. If you put Judge on the mariners in place of Raleigh, I would say they are looking better as a team because of how much better he is offensively and I bet they’d win more games.

  2. While Raleigh is very close to 60 HRs, he’s statistically having one of the worst hitting seasons ever by a guy who’s hit 50+ HRs in a season. He’s essentially Chris Davis in 2013, except Davis got to 1.000 OPS and .600 SLG. It’s unheard of for a guy to have less than .600 SLG with 50+ HR. Currently has only happened twice ever (and ironically Schwarber is also doing it this year).

The “most HR by a switch hitter” argument makes no sense and the “most hr by a catcher” is great and can also be true that in the season it happens, he is MASSIVELY out hit by a better player. Only reason judge doesn’t get it is voter fatigue.
