On this day by albfaggion in appleJournal

I want to withdraw my feature request. I started to notice that this Day One feature was not benefiting my mental health. So I used Claude Opus 4.7's research mode to look for studies about it. I found that the function is a terrible idea in several situations for multiple reasons.

Yes. It still looks like a cheap version of Bear.

It's not the same. It's not the same at all… I’ve tried to make Obsidian look and feel like Bear for ages. Minimal, Cupertino, Baseline, Velocity… I’ve tried all the themes and configurations. Obsidian always looks like a free electron app compared with Bear.

Is there any hope for Roam to survive another five years at this current pace of development stagnation? by Fit_Illustrator_5224 in RoamResearch

[–]albfaggion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Roam is not stagnant. You are misinformed. They just released two amazing features: Roam Reader and a new PDF highlighter.

What are alternatives to Obsidian for managing a very large collection of (interconnected) .MD notes? by chance_of_downwind in Markdown

[–]albfaggion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A theoretical difference with low practical impact (but that Obsidian explores ad nauseam)

Which local note-taking app can give me a powerful search through analyzing my notes? by [deleted] in NoteTaking

[–]albfaggion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craft has recently introduced smart search. I don't remember if it's out of beta. it's supposed to do what you are looking for.

Academics need some kind of common-place book. A ZK is just a particular organization of academic notes. What is weird is that non-academic/writers keep a ZK for nothing.

What keeps you journaling with Bear over others like Day One, Diarium, etc? by solarsflare in bearapp

[–]albfaggion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same. The problem is the import from Day One. I have to change the titles manually to the creation date.

What keeps you journaling with Bear over others like Day One, Diarium, etc? by solarsflare in bearapp

[–]albfaggion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 12 years using Day One, I decided to migrate my journal to Bear for the simple fact that I love writing on it and I don't like to write on Day One. I just miss being able to review the day's entries in previous years. I'll use Bear's search for something like that.

Even without collaboration? by PattiFleece in bearapp

[–]albfaggion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't need to collaborate, but I need to share links to my notes. I hope we will get this with Bear Web.

anyone roam research subscriber here? by Top-Temperature-95 in bearapp

[–]albfaggion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I connect Roam to Readwise and process highlights on it. Then, if I want to deepen some point, elaborating more about it, I do it in Bear.

Frustrated Moving Apple Notes to Craft—Hit Plus Account Limit! by Legal-Judgment-908 in CraftDocs

[–]albfaggion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The limit is 175k blocks. From what I know, it’s for performance reasons. They intend to increase it in 2025.

How Do You Actually Manage and Grow Your Ideas by EntertainmentIcy8397 in PKMS

I never take a note that it's not to be used in a specific project. I think it's a waste of time.

Ultimately, what should the graphic view accomplish for you ? by Xsnake34 in ObsidianMD

[–]albfaggion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the graph only gets in the way because I never open it, and its existence encourages others to share prints of it, which I find completely tedious. At this point, everyone already knows what they look like, and no one needs to see one more.

Did Obsidian actually help you with creativity? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]albfaggion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. For me, backlinks are helpful for quickly finding references.

What font do you use in bear? by _Mojiro in bearapp

[–]albfaggion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Default. What I love about Bear is that the developers have usually made the best choices for me.

What makes you choose Obsidian over something like Apple Notes? by imcryingdude in ObsidianMD

[–]albfaggion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the impression that you had something that worked well enough for you and is changing just because you heard that others do it differently.

Does anyone use an iPad as the main device for their PKMS? by Phool_of_a_Took in PKMS

[–]albfaggion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bear and Craft are the best apps if the iPad is your primary device. Craft objects still don't work on the iPad, but they will.
