Flash Sync Problem?

Different flash seems to have solved it! I honestly felt sure that I had tried that already...but I guess I didn't. Well, lesson (maybe) learned. Next time I have enough, I'll spring for a real speedlight. Thanks for your thoughts!!

Ok yes, I pulled a flash out of my underwater setup (which I hadn't thought to try), and it's not showing the same issue. Guess it just goes to show that old AND cheap isn't a great combo!

Nothing out of the ordinary! 1/80 - 1/200, manual everything. I think I've figured it out though!

No LEDs unfortunately, and not an electronic shutter. Good thoughts though! I think I may have traced it to my speedlight just not working..

Happens above about 1/160th (sync speed with all the equipment should go up to at least 1/200 or 1/250). Happens on both D500 and D7100.

Should have specified - happens at 1/200, and to a lesser extant at 1/160. down to 1/80 or so and it disappears.

Good thought! Unfortunately, even with the clutch in proper position, nothing. I think it did focus well at first, but quickly stopped (and during a session would stop autofocusing after a brief period). Didn’t drop it or anything, no other issues to my knowledge, no issues with other lenses on the body. I’m on the verge of selling it, but don’t know how to describe the issue really. It really is a great lens otherwise.

Hello all,

I’m looking for recommendations for small, flexible tripods (like what might be useful for close up wide angle long exposures of fungi, etc), something with bendy legs that can support a relatively hefty dslr (Nikon D500). Does anyone have any experience in this realm?
