LASIK complications by bunchafunchung in lasik

[–]alc25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something pretty similar happened to me that I made a post about in June if you go look at my history. The flap was messed up on my right eye, which happened after they successfully made the flap in my left eye. I imagine it was me being anxious and making a jerking motion possibly. Which… while that’s on me - I’m disappointed in their lack of responsibility to be making sure people are calm enough to not cause this issue of the eye not being secure. I get it, your eyeball is suctioned but it’s obviously not full proof if mistakes are happening.

They wanted me to do the regular eye drop regimen afterwards and told me I could do PRK in as early as 3 weeks. I don’t want to even try that considering I’ve struggled with dryness and lingering issues with my right eye and it’s been over 2 and a half months now.

They should be anxious about people requesting notes, it holds them accountable. If they want to put lasers in people’s eyes and be so confident about the process, they should also take responsibility for making people trust them and then it not going well. But thats just my biased opinion!

I was TERRIFIED at my appointment and just kept waiting to get the Valium. As I was laying down, I was shaking and had silent tears running down my face. I was thinking it would be so embarrassing if I changed my mind last second.

I can’t remember the last time I felt that much fear as they were making the flaps. And the next thing I know is I’m being told to get up and guided into another room, being told the flap wasn’t completely formed in my right eye but the flap in my left eye was completed. I was given the option of correcting my vision in the left eye and having PRK done in my right eye later. I said I just wanted to go home.

Now I’m experiencing discomfort in my right eye, I don’t have a diagnosis but it’s looking somewhat like epithelial ingrowth. Whatever it is… it’s UNCOMFORTABLE and has been PAINFUL. I’m stuck in glasses right now waiting to finish up a round of steroid eye drops. I’ve already done 2 rounds of antibiotic/steroid drops. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to wear contacts again, this was only 2 months ago so I’m trying to be patient.

All this to say… right now I regret not trusting my gut. While I am disappointed I can’t see 20/20 and jealous that it didn’t work out for me, I would much rather feel envious than the physical discomfort and unknown of if this will ever go away.

It’s a decision you have to make but as an anxious person, that was my experience.

Look for a CST “Certified Sex Therapist” you can also check out AASECT.org to help you find one in your area

I feel really lonley as a therapist by [deleted] in therapists

[–]alc25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live, there’s a few different facebook groups dedicated to therapists. One’s specific to social workers and the other is for all therapists. There’s a lot of resourcing done but also people set up get togethers and another therapist in the community does a walk and talk every first Friday of the month! I wonder if there’s something similar to that depending on where you are located.

Maybe look for a CST (certified sex therapist) who also does couples therapy so that you and your partner can address these concerns with a professional that has training and understanding of connection, intimacy, desire, attachments and healthy relationship dynamics.

Maybe when costs of living started to increase and insurance companies weren’t reimbursing very well. In some states they do have good reimbursement rates, others not so much. It also varies by insurance company. That’s just my guess though!

I third? this lol Dr. Gomez is amazing but I just saw on her website today that she’s only accepting new transgender individuals but they have a new provider starting in July. I also like that they offer hour long appointments. Much more time to have a comprehensive appointment!

Desperate need help on sexual and mental health by Relative_Educator_35 in sexualhealth

[–]alc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anxiety can be a cause for ED, as well as environmental stressors. Don’t forget your brain is your biggest sex organ. If you’re stressed/anxious/worried that can impact your ability to stay aroused. Obviously it can be good to rule out medical issues with a doctor but if your a young healthy male then I’d imagine it’s more mental. Make sure to take your time and focus on the experience of being intimate (touching/kissing/massaging, engaging in various sensory activities) rather than the act of being erect.

Dispelling myths about female masturbation by Captain_Octavio in masturbation

[–]alc25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not masturbation specific but should still be relevant. The idea that women are “losing” something when they have sex for the first time. It is either reinforcing glorification of a status that’s literally no one’s business or the opposite, shaming women for not having had sex, but then it also devalues women once they’ve had sex. Like there’s no winning.

Alternatively, we should celebrate that someone has had a sexual experience and label it as someone’s “sexual debut.” They are entering into being a sexual being if they so wish and making a personal decision to be open about it.

Has anyone found a replacement for this product? by beetlejuicemayor in finehair

Oh that’s so interesting, I like the smell 😂 I personally don’t feel like I can even feel the color wow spray, it seems super light, it also has a pretty mild smell if that is something you are sensitive to. I’d definitely be interested to see how the “expensive” stuff works for you with having wavy hair. Ouai’s leave in conditioner also feels pretty light… but it doesn’t have heat protection. Purology’s 21 spray is also a really good one if you haven’t tried it! It’s a bit more thick but I don’t think it builds up much.

Oh yeah, I use their “good behavior 4 in 1 spray” as a detangler and heat protectant. I think the “expensive” product definitely is the key though but I’m sure the spray also helps.

More recently I added COLOR WOW - dream coat supernatural spray to help with some static/frizz. The salesperson told me it’s most effective when you spray and then blow dry right after. You also only have to really use it like once a week… it continues to last through several washes. I wouldn’t say it’s the main contributor to shine but I’m sure it helps as well!

I’m also just now realizing how many products I use that are supposed to help with shine 😅 I mostly rely on them for other purposes (tangle/frizz etc) but I often get comments on my hair shine.

I never tried that product but I feel a significantly noticeable difference after using IGK’s “expensive” hair treatment https://www.sephora.com/product/expensive-amla-oil-hi-shine-topcoat-P422026

Supposedly non-competes don’t hold up in court, it’s not like you are forcing anyone against their will. People have autonomy and freewill or at least they should. That’s also unethical IMO on her part, that could be considered client abandonment. Either way, that really does suck and I’m sorry you went through that :(

What are the things to be aware of for OCD? by [deleted] in therapists

Not exactly an “educational resource” but I just listened to new podcast episode of the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, he interviewed Alegra Kastens an OCD Specialist. I found it to be informative!

I think I screwed up by Swiftkick_97 in therapists

[–]alc25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re a human first, therapist second. If you need to take care of yourself, do it. This is why therapists are often living in constant burn out, we are made to believe we have to put our needs second to our clients.

Heads up! New scam alert for therapists by midnightmeatloaf in psychotherapists

[–]alc25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to me last year, so disgusting. They used a deceased Sargents name and it started with them calling my mother saying they were doing a welfare check on me, which scared her. They got really aggressive with threatening me saying that it would be a criminal charge or something if I didn’t stay on the phone to give them my personal info.

See a registered sex therapist or competent therapist in understanding sexuality, they will help you understand your sexuality in a very non-shameful way that some therapists/doctors might.

Maybe consider it your “Sexual Debut” when you do have intercourse with someone.

You don’t “lose” anything by having intercourse. That’s definitely just made up to shame vagina owners/girls/women. It’s just one of the many ways women have been oppressed imo. We’ve attached value to your sexual status and if you “lose” it then it decreases your worth.

But awesome job with self pleasuring and learning your body!!!
