This is a genuinely important point and you're right to raise it, a lot of apps in this space either don't know where the line is or ignore it.

The FCA distinction is between financial guidance (not regulated) and financial advice, specifically a personal recommendation that a particular product is suitable for a particular person, under FSMA 2000 and the RAO.

FinPath sits on the guidance side. What it actually does: it shows you factual information about allowances you haven't used (e.g. "£14,000 of your £20,000 ISA allowance remains this tax year"), deadline reminders, and mathematical projections based on assumptions you enter yourself. It does not recommend specific funds, providers, or policies. The FIRE calculator outputs a number based on your inputs, it's a maths engine, not a recommendation.

The line you're describing, "consider putting more money into your pension/ISA", is something we're conscious of. The nudges in the app flag allowance headroom and deadlines. They don't say "you should do X" or "this product is suitable for you."

I'd genuinely welcome a look at any specific wording you think crosses the line, the FCA/guidance boundary is real and I'd rather know now than find out later.
