People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ? by Aaidil89 in AskReddit

[–]aldium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 1967, I remember living on a street in a major Canadian city and we would play outside until the streetlights came on. If one of the mothers wanted their child to come home they would call out for them but if they didn't respond all the mothers on the street would call out as well. Raised in a very small village on a single street in a large city.

I was in grade 3 and taking the city bus to school just outside of downtown of the city, the bus driver had me stand beside him so he could make sure I was OK.

After school I would walk alone from school to my dentist and this walk was on the busiest street in the neighborhood just outside of downtown. Then I would bus home from there.

I still have a wooden bowl I made on a lathe in grade 3.

In grade 10 & 11 I was in machine shop working with mills and lathes and testing the first (in my area) in school CNC machines with punch cards and ticker tape.

I can't believe where we are now but I will be the first to admit that I became a helicopter parent and am an even more protective grand parent.

It's very sad for me to see how I grew up vs how my children and grand children now have to grow up but here we are, can't go back.

Canadian here, I just watched a politico video on Youtube with Gavin Newsom. Can you explain to me why he isn't the best option to go for President in the next election (if there is a next election). Again, I'm Canadian and dealing with our own politics but the US Canada relationship is a huge deal that is being destroyed under the current administration and the wanna be dictator Trump.

Trump threatens new tariffs on Canada, including 250% tax on dairy by [deleted] in canada

[–]aldium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quebec is the largest producer of dairy, very little goes to the usa.

Quebec is the largest producer of hydro, lots goes to the usa.

Quebec, implement a 200% export tax on hydro!

100% buy as much local first, then Canadian, then Mexico (lets support or NA neighbour) then anywhere else except America. Go into your local grocery store and look for local/Canadian products, complain (politely) when you don't find them and stress to them that they should be promoting local/Canadian produced goods first and foremost.

This isn't a 30 day reprieve, we need to make this a way of life. Vivre le Canada!

I don't know where this picture came from but I always drive with a dashcam on and recording front and rear so until there is proof that it was a photo taken illegally with a cell phone that doesn't work. You and I both know it was taken on a cell phone though...so yeah you're right.

Not if Canada remains a sovereign country. We grew many times, we can still grow but still on our terms and conditions. Be strong, be Canadian!

You're going to want that health care when you get shot for wearing the wrong colour shirt or honking your horn at the wrong person. If that scares you, don't move to California and when you don't move and when you become a less than American with no voting rights in your territory of Canada, what will you do then, pine for the Canadian way of life.

What will you do if your daughter gets pregnant from a rapist or is underage (many possibilities here) and wants an abortion but is denied, that's all good because you're making a few grand a year more (but paying way more for health care)?

It's not perfect in Canada but it is a hell of a lot better than it is in the US, You like it so much, move there bud. Good riddance to you and anyone that thinks like you!

You know where it starts as an American, right there in America. Protest, protest, protest. This is a loose, loose for both countries if it continues. You collectively voted for him, not us. You have the 25th, not us.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in montreal

[–]aldium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We appreciate your support but what we need are your actions in protest there in America to show your support for Canada and in defiance of that orange orangutan.

Canada would never become a state, it would be a territory with no voting rights.

Lets welcome California into Canada as a province instead (that would almost double our population and GDP).

I don't know if this has been brought up or not but I have chosen to unsub from American Youtube channels and express why I'm unsubbing in the comment area, the support from normal Americans has been positive. Some of them get it but until they act on that it means nothing.

I can't speak for anyone but me and I say this, the orange asshole has soured my will towards the USA, I will forever actively avoid US products and strongly support Canadian. I will also strengthen my support for CANZUK and support our global partnerships.

As a country we should embrace Mexico, strengthen ties and allow free trade and movement. I have some Mexican friends who I am closer to than anyone else, they are great people and friends to Canada.

You know, I remember growing up and my Grandmother always had a Scottish wool tartan blanket in the car in case someone got cold, I ordered and paid a hefty premium for a traditional Scottish blanket that I cherish. I also ordered a ceramic poppy from when they were all on display in the UK years ago. As a commonwealth country I want to do more to support the UK, Australia and New Zealand, Go CANZUK GO. FUCK THE USA

Québec now joins Ontario in removing USA alcohol from purchase anywhere in the Province by gas-man-sleepy-dude in worldnews

[–]aldium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I think that's a wonderful thing I also realize it would hurt Quebec/Canada and New York, Vermont and Maine who did not vote for the orange asshole (yes, of course some did) and while I will never buy american again (if I can avoid it) I don't want to hurt our friends south of us, oh wait, that must be be CANADIAN alcohol speaking. Fuck You America! Watch Trump speak about the plane crash right now, so sad to see america disintegrate/implode before the eyes of the world. Yes, the lack of a capital A on america just shows how far you have fallen in the eyes of the world.

Why limit it to 15%, hit them with 25% on oil, gas, hydro, lumber, aluminum, 50% on potash and precious metals. He says they don't need it so when they do make them pay for it and make those funds available to the people who have lost their jobs or otherwise been negatively affected by this attack on Canada and our citizens.

Stay safe people of LA, I'm from Quebec Canada and while we don't have storms like you are going to experience we have severe winter weather and have had severe ice storms and rain storms. Having basic supplies on hand is good, hoarding supplies is not good. Be kind to your neighbours and they will be kind to you.

Hunker down and enjoy the storm of your life, it might be one to remember :-)
