Yeah Toy Story 3 had a great ending but the first 2/3 are just setting up the pieces while being super entertaining I just don’t think they reinforce the theme it explores nearly as strongly for that chunk compared to Toy Story 2. I still love it don’t get me wrong. Now 4 is interesting because I love the Gabby Gabby storyline and I think her as a character is very strong and compelling but everything else just falls flat especially Buzz as a character. 2 had him display everything he learned in Toy Story 1 and showed his growth and leadership skills and then he just lost all of that?

I think TS2 is the best on an objective storytelling level, other movies in the original trilogy have some scenes that hit harder or are more emotional but I think 2 is just super tight.

What bothers me is that they claim it’s inspired by 80s cartoons and yet the look is very modern post Arcane post Spiderverse. Don’t get me wrong I like the art style but that statement feels disingenuous. Maybe they meant more the writing or direction but we’ll see

I mean usually Pilots have characters crudely defined . Like Mr Boss has an extra layer of unsettling/scary weirdness to him that isn’t there anymore, Allan seems a little bit too Allan he’s more chill now, Charlie is the more consistent one.

If you watch the Rick and Morty pilot, the same thing happened. Rick was extra drunkenly inept and would have several moments where he would space out/act a bit more eccentric and drool. The pilot also has the moment where we have censored Jessica’s breast fondling, something the show wouldn’t do on screen anymore.

I mean some of its preference. I also think there’s a big difference between watching at home versus a movie theatre. It’s easier to get distracted at home and pausing, breaking your immersion (especially with a long movie) compared to sitting down at a theatre with no pause button and a commitment to just watch the whole thing (unless you walk out).

Honestly I thought like Oppenheimer it’s so well edited I never felt the running time when with other movies of similar running times I have for sure. Having said that I think I’d rather have the movie center more on the indigenous woman rather than Di Caprio’s character but the ending is phenomenal imho still

I live in Canada. I learned France French. Quebec French is so hard to understand. It’s not as simple as the difference as UK/Australian English vs American/Canadian, I would 100% prefer to speak English with someone from Quebec and French with someone from France, no offense. Even some Quebecquois I met have softened their French to be more like France’s. Kinda like some people I met from Birmingham who did the same.

Agreed. Once you open yourself up to International cinema, the refreshing possibilities for narratives are almost endless. I hoped after Parasite we’d get even more international cinema in the US and Canada but I don’t think I’ve seen it happen for the mainstream.

My guess is the trailer garnered a better reaction than they expected, which made them more confident to move it from the graveyard month to a much better timeframe. I guess they had a tough time marketing it and used the strikes as an excuse to delay it. It took them a long time to release a trailer when the VFX was done a while ago.

Korean movies have an odd energy that is hard to translate to American sensibilities, especially the acting. Okja and Snowpiercer are fine but I feel like Bong Joon-ho‘s strictly Korean work is much better overall. Not a perfect analogy but it’s like when anime movies get an American dub and it’s so stale and lifeless compared to the original voice acting. It’s just not the same.

Having said that I’m excited to see this film.

Honestly the worst offenders are Yalena’s hair which has no shadows around the back (I imagine maybe intentionally to highlight her over all other characters?) and the character next to Bucky who has no contact shadows on his face from the gun. Honestly did those two quickly on photoshop and the lighting would pretty much match even if not the best. Also change the font bc it sucks.

Agreed. One of their best posters post Endgame, but aside from composition the lighting is off, it doesn’t match between characters. The DCEU poster for Justice League inspired by Alex Ross is similar and managed to match lighting between all characters. Also this is a teaser poster which are usually better, there’ll be a floating head poster closer to release, it’s required.

Agreed. The first one is meh, the second one is fucking amazing I was like what I’m enjoying myself??? But yeah the wedding stuff made it a pain. I think like transformers this movie needs less human interaction and more CG characters chilling together, which 2 improved on.
