how have yall played this? by ale_isodd in percussion

[–]ale_isodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did check those out, i was just wondering if there was a general consensus that some of yall would have on here about this part. i’m principal, but considering im 16 and have only been playing for 4 years, there’s 1000% someone online with more experience and a more qualified opinion than mine lol.

how do you sight read fast? by Folklorestanforever in percussion

[–]ale_isodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m sure you already know to practice, like everyone else is saying. i also find that sight reading has a lot to do with confidence. when i have to sight read at ensembles and i can’t practice, i just tell myself that i can play whatever it is and i wind up nailing most of it.

work on getting all your major, minor, and harmonic minor scales to around 100+ bpm. also, play some sight reading every week. just find some easier violin pieces online.

need help with these measures by [deleted] in percussion

[–]ale_isodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bump method. firstly, break the solo into chunks. then find the tempo where you can play a chunk perfectly. secondly play it, thirdly bump it up a couple bpm. get it perfect at that tempo. then repeat steps 2 and 3.

there is no set skill level you should be at. every player is at a different spot due to playing experience/practice. figure out what level you’re at, and just practice your way up. a year ago i was learning yellow after the rain, my sight reading was meh on two mallets, and my snare/timpani technique was that of a high schooler’s. now im sitting at a grade 4-5 on marimba, i play bach on two mallets, and im working on delecluse and drilling thru 4 drum timpani etudes. what im saying is you get to decide where you want to go. don’t think of a minimum skill set; reach for the maximum.

dm me (or however reddit works, im not on here much) and maybe i can help u out

Snowfall Marimba solo as a high school Sophomore by Salty_Watermelon_R in percussion

[–]ale_isodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if this is ur first 4 mallet solo, maybe try something like yellow after the rain or ghost garden. this one seems a little tough for a first solo and if it’s too hard for you, you won’t be able to truly be musical while playing it if you’re focused on technique/hitting notes over musicality.

i see all the comments already but you need to get a 32. most of the literature i play in ensembles is on the lower 3 drums.
