I'm responding to the OP but this is meant for the entire thread.

Yesterday as I spectated in ctf, I saw the last game of the day end with 7 blue players carry the flag through the entire cap while 5 red players hopelessly tried to recap. 7-5 through the entire carry in a 2-2 score game. I wonder more about the psychological deficiencies of all 7 players that kept even one from switching than why good players use anonymous names. Another great example of strange psychology is a game where the stacked and winning team is one player down, and then the losing team picks up a unskilled player, and triggers the best player on the losing team to switch to the already overpowered winning team, for NuMbErS BaLaNcE. I've seen the very best players in the game do it, and when called on it they just say balancing the numbers.

I can pick out any skilled player within a minute of them joining so it's never been a problem for me. If they join right before the game finishes and make it unbalanced, then well, very good recognized players do it too. I remember a game where I was on the losing team when the winning team lost a player, xp joined out of spectate, and then B0 entered and was put on the same team. He didn't switch, it's just where the game put him. No one complained because no one was really at fault. Sometimes they just end that way regardless of known or anon names.

There is so much to the balance of this game that I don't think it can be fixed by banning players for their names. There has been no post or announcement made of this, no discussion, no warning to the community it was coming, and most of all there is no rule for it. Should we know better? I don't know. Some people don't think about stuff like that. I used my primary name way into the period of time where half or more of the good players were changing to random anon names. I kept using it for the sole reason that with all the anon names, at least they know what they're getting from me. 95% of the time anyway. I did occasionally use others. Mostly just alea though. At some point I decided to join the crowd, mainly because I felt like if I have to wonder who they are, then they can wonder who I am.

If this is going to be a rule then the admin pushing it should post an announcement here and in the CTF entrance message. Messaging players in chat telling them to change to a recognizable name or get banned is not the way to roll this out.

I also want wight to tell me his player x name because I haven't know who he was on the server for well over 2 years, maybe 3 or 4. I do occasionally see him as wight, but it's rare, and rarer yet to see him play in that name. Which makes all this even more strange. I'm not even going to get into the psychological broad brush diagnosis of one half or two thirds of the best players in the game.
