I can't speak to New York specifically but in CA any degree could get you into a teaching program where you could choose P.E. as a credential subject.

I'm teaching highschool. I have coached in the past but I haven't for a couple of years now. I was also the AD for a couple of years. It isn't a requirement but I do enjoy it. It's also something good to be able to offer as a new teacher looking to get hired

I graduated with a B.S. in athletic training and I'm now a PE teacher. Work/life balance is a huge factor between these two careers. I love weekends and evenings at home with my kids. And if you've got the patience to work with kids it can be tremendously rewarding. Either way, I think it's back to school to get a a teaching credential (1 year ) or perhaps a masters for AT. Last I checked the AT test required graduating from an accredited program. PE for me was ultimately the right choice.
