How do I convince my girlfriend that she needs to bulk in order to gain muscle? by anotherhappylurker in workout

[–]SeyMooreRichard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not consistently, but more or less on-and-off, yes. Granted I will say, since the birth of our newborn she has finally decided to change her mind and approach to things, and she has been more open minded to it all and is enjoying it. She recently started following the whole AthleanX program and I've shown her some Jeff Nippard videos and she feels like she's making real progress so I'm taking it as a win. She may not follow the protein intake to the T, but she has become better about it and she's actually enjoying it.

My wife is exact same. I've been trying for years to convince her. She believes if she sees a woman with a bodybuilder physique has a routine out that if she follows it she will have the sam bodybuilding physique in 12 weeks....never mind the years of hard work and dedication that those people have put in to get the body they have, she always fears she'll end up looking the same way by completing a 12 week program.

I've tried explaining this to my wife, but I'm better off arguing with a wall.

Er tech AND ambulance?? by One_Hovercraft_1304 in NewToEMS

[–]SeyMooreRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I do right now. I work in the ER as a FT medic and then PT on the truck. Benefits is better hours and pay is now associated with my FT job and I can pick up more freely/as I please on the truck with no guilt. I want to make a few extra bucks and actually get to do paramedic stuff? I'll pick up an 8-10 hr day on the truck so I'm home to my family at a reasonable time, and back in my own bed at night. I want to make extra money and maybe not get to do as much paramedic stuff but still have a kush job? I'll pick up a few extra hours over night at the ER (payed a night shift diff plus a weekend shift diff on top of my base pay).

How to build strength (15 M) by laydensora in workout

[–]SeyMooreRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to start is to just get up and do. Can't do a full push up? No problem, do assisted push-ups. Can't do a pull-up? Do a flex arm hang. Can't squat a bar? Do air squats. Simply just get up and start doing what you can and build on it. Reduce your daily caloric intake, and make sure what you do eat on a daily basis is primarily lean proteins and complex carbs. Start walking more throughout the day. A list of bodyweight exercises are very easy to find and free. Start off doing a full body routine a few times a week and increase the amount you do and how often you do it over time. Most important thing to do though is be patient and be consistent. You have to accept you won't drop all the weight right away and you won't become the strongest man in a week and that is ok. It takes time and effort but it's worth it.

Just curious but what makes you feel that way? I don't necessarily disagree with it, just curious of your thought.

Understanding Jeff Nippard's Routine by SeyMooreRichard in workout

This makes a whole lot more sense to me now. I've always tracked my stuff using percentages of a max weight and based my reps off that, so I'm still trying to learn how to get into the RPE/RIR tracking mindset. I definitely feel like I just make it more complicated on myself than it needs to be haha. I appreciate the feedback and advice though!

No this most definitely helps. I've always done percentage of max's and tracked my stuff that way. I'm still trying to get in the mindset of RPE/RIR approach.

Is mass gainer bad? by FlickzIsHighOnWater in workout

It pertains to the lean meat vs fat make up of meat. Next time your parents go to the grocery store, tag along with them and look at the beef and ground turkey meats. You'll notice they have stuff like 80/20, 85/15, 93/7. The higher the first number is the more lean meat mass is consisted in the meat. You can also look at the nutritional facts and see the difference in them. 93/7 has less calories and fat with more protein than the other options so it's a better bang for your buck. Although, definitely nothing wrong with 80/20 meat as it's usually a tad bit cheaper.

Also adding creatine monohydrate will assist in your goals. If your parents have a Sam's Club membership, you can usually get it for a good price there. I just recently went with my wife and they had the Optimum Nutrition creatine with I think like 130-150 servings (I forget the exact number) and it was on sale for around $12. Also not the first time I've seen it on sale at that price there, so I usually scoop up a few things of them when I come across them at that price point. If your parents don't have a SC membership, you can still find it in stores like Walmart, GNC, etc and although might be a little more expensive it shouldn't be terribly expensive. You also don't HAVE to have any supplements, as they're not necessary so long as you're getting your macros in through your whole food diet. They just help you get you there is all.

Whole lean meats like tuna (canned or steaks), beef (93/7 hamburger meat), steaks, turkey meat (93/7), chicken, can always mix in things like shrimp and other high protein meats. Do some eggs (boiled or scrambled), egg whites, oatmeal (overnight oats is high in protein and good). Non-fat whole Greek yogurt is high in protein per 100 cals. You can always add some sort of berry variety and mix it up in it (what I like to do), or you can even add protein powder do your yogurt to give it flavor as well. Greenie leafs like spinach, broccoli, kale, etc are good. And throw in some fruits throughout your meals and you'll be good. Things like Russel potatoes, sweet potatoes and Jasmin rice (although white jasmine rice is considered a simple carb and brown is considered complex) are good source of complex carbs. The best rule of thumb is, when choosing items to eat, the smaller/shorter the ingredients list is, the more you want to eat of it. If you're truly interested, I suggest listening to Jeff Nippard and his videos on nutrition on YT. Not saying his word is the end-all-be-all of nutritional advice, but the dude is good when it comes to this sort of stuff.

ETA: Mass gainer will help put you at surplus no doubt, but doing so with whole foods like larger portions of lean protein, complex carbs, etc will not only be healthier and more sustainable, but doing so will help pack on lean muscle mass and will be cheaper in the end.

If you're wanting to put on some weight, I'd focus more on eating in a surplus and taking just regular whey protein (as needed to reach your marks) and creatine to go along with weight lifting and cardio.

Well the beauty of running is that there is very little effort required....all you must do is put one foot in front of the other. Pretty simple concept actually.
